how often should a timing belt be replaced? every 60K is suggested, but is it safe to go for more?

also, how many miles can a timing chain go in a 3rd gen max? I've heard 100K, but dont really know.

which models (years) have timing belts and which models have timing chains?

thanks!

well if you have a 94SE then you have a timing chain. all 89-91's have belts and 92-94 GXE (SOHC motor) have belts. the belt should be changed every 60K. any more and you run the risk of destroying your motor if it breaks.

the chain should last forever. i haven't heard of anyone having any problems with it...
