I went to a friends house last night. I left the windows down when I got out and locked the doors. I know, having your windows down kinda defeats the purpose of locking the doors. Anyways, I went to the car to go home at about 1230 and reached in and unlocked the door and opened the door. I HAVE AN ALARM!!!! I never read the manual so I wasn't aware of it. Anyways, for about 10 minutes I was in the car pushing all kinds of buttons and nothing worked. After about 30 minutes, the car is still beeping so I finally remembered the manual in the glovebox. Did I mention that it was around 1 o' clock at this time. Anyways, just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else and how do you activate the alarm? And lets just say that my friend got a few calls from the neighborst the next morning.

You've actually ran into the factory alarm system. Arming/disarming it is simply a matter of placing the key in either the driver's or passengers door and turning the cylinder. If you'll notice, when you exit the vehicle, there should be (unless the bulb is blown) an amber blinking light alterting you to the fact that there may be some kind of theft deterrent. Locking the door (either via the switch, or by the key) will cause the light to stay solid for approx. 30 - 40 seconds, then disappear. Then, unless you use the key to open the door(s), the horn will start blowing and you won't be able to start the car.

Enjoy the ride!!

Heh.... I've been there. You just turn the alarm off by putting the key in the lock and unlocking the car.

Here's what I've found about about my alarm after playing with it a while. When you lock the door with the key you'll see the "Security" light on the dash go on, it will stay on for about a minute, during this time the security system is not engaged. The light will then turn off and the security system will be engaged. It will go off if you open a door without first disengaging the system (by unlocking the door with key). You can unlock the door through the window without setting the thing off but once you open the door your car will beep and flash.

I've noticed when opening the trunk (with key) while the security is engaged will make the "Security" light blink, when you close the trunk the light stays on for about another minute (im assuming security is disengaged during this period, as if you just locked the door).

Now time for me to add to the question, I have a aftermarket remote lock/start system (La-Z-Start, I think ?) that was installed by a friend of my fathers about 5 years ago. When use the remote to lock the doors the security system will not activate and I can open it any way I wish (thru window, key, remote button). If I lock with the key and the security system engages and if I unlock with the remote button and open the door the security system blares. Anyone that can explain why this is how to change it such that the remote button activates/deactivates the security as the key does would be greatly useful.

That's all I've found out so far... Anyone else have any info on when turns on and off, etc. I'd be glad to find out.

Wow I typed alot

Mwb90SE: I'm not sure if the La-Z-Start has it, but some security systems come with a wire that'll connect to the OEM arm/disarm wire on the car. I know DEI and Alpine security sysems have them. What this will do is exactly what you wanted it to do: arm and disarm the OEM and aftermarket system when you use the remote. The wire colors in the car are:

OEM disarm - lt. green/white
OEM arm - lt. green/black

Both of these wires should be in the harness coming out of the driver's door. They're negative trigger, but you might wanna check 'em first with a multimeter.

Enjoy the ride!!
