This is my scenerio:

I put the tranny in D. From a dead stop, I step on the gas all the way and never let off. My engine shifts to 2nd gear at about 600 rpms shy of the redline. Is there something wrong? My power/comfort switch is on power. James92SE told me, his car revs right up to redline and then shifts to 2nd. Please let me know what you car does. Thank you.

To be exact, I shift at 5900 rpms everytime. I am wondering why I do this when I should be shifting at redline...6700 rpms. My ideas are a throttle linkage cable is a little off OR my transmission's kickback linkage. What do you think? What do other VE Auto owner's shift at? Thanks.

It will not shift at redline just to keep it safe on the motor.I am pretty sure with an ecu you can get a little more out of the rpm band but other than that redline means redline.Mine shifts at 6100 rpm though.

Mine doesnt shift AT redline, it shifts right before it...at about 6500 rpm. Regardless, if you're shifting at only 5900 rpm, something's gotta be wrong.

So, does anybody have any idea what is wrong with my car? Throttle Cable? In gear, I idle at 600 rpms. Is that low? Sometimes, my rpms drop to 400 and the car shutters, but it always catches back up. Is this another matter or does it have something to do with me shifting early? Thanks for everybody's help.

shuttering...

My car has been having some serious shuttering issues lately, and a lot of times, it'll stall. My auto shifts according to how much throttle I give it. At full, it'll shift like 400 rpms before redline. Try changing your fuel filter, it did wonders for my car.

Is there a way to test the O2 sensor myself?

This sounds stupid, but do you have a floormat? Maybe it is getting between the pedal and the floor, and that is keping you from having 100% throttle opening. As for the car shuttering. Diagnostics.

Yeah, I think it's simple. I keep checking to see if my floor mat gets in the way. That's not the problem. But, when I do press the gas really hard, it pushes against that plastic block and pops. It's hard to explain, but I think I get about 5950 or 6000 rpms before I shift. I will check to see if that block is screwed down all the way. I will also check my throttle cable by using my Chilton's Manual. Thanks.

Heh, sometimes it's the simplest things that can get you. Both the floor mat and check for true WOT are the first simple things that should be checked but instead I read the thread earlier and thought "woah, that's crazy and I have no clue". Future lesson here.

You mean, I am everywhere? Hey Nismo, is idling at 600 rpms lower than normal? If I fix my "shifting early" problem, I will let everyone know how I did it. Thanks.

I tightened my throttle cable today and it now shifts at 6000 rpms. And it idles in gear at 800 rpms. I think it shifts at the right point now. I will just live with it unless someone else has a suggestion. Thanks.
