Fuel Injector replacement question
Fuel Injector replacement question
With a lot of help from members I've removed the intake plenum and I'm about to replace #1 fuel injector in my 92 GXE. My Haines manual says to remove the fuel rail to replace the injector. Can I leave the fuel rail in place and just pry out #1 injector? Are there 2 O-rings per injector a small and a large or just the large as shown in the Haines manual. Tomorrow evening(Wednesday)I plan to complete after I pick up the parts at dealer. After getting into job I understand dealers price of $500 to replace the injector. But with 5 more to go I figured I best learn.
Please post results
I have a bad #3 injector. The few mechanics I spoke with said it was best to go ahead and replace them all at once. However, one Nissan dealer said to change just the one, that price was $400-500!
Just happens that the Maxima injectors are so damn expensive.
Are you replacing just the one? One mechanic said he do them all if I got the parts - $200 for his services. Does that sound like a decent deal? Let me know how difficult/long it takes you.
Thanks

Hmmmmm... injectors.... something I know quite a bit about! I've found, as I'm sure most of you have, that dealer prices make you feel like you've been gang raped! I bought my new injectors from Venom for my 90 SE for right under $600... and that was for all 6!!! I think I ordered them through NOPI. Anyway, I'd suggest doing all 6 at once, because you don't want to go through the headache more than once! When I replaced mine, I pinched the new O-ring, so when I went for a test drive, I drained a quarter tank of gas in about 10 minutes.

I have a 1994 Max (DOHC) and I was thinking of doing some injector replacing myself. I was wondering if you could tell me how you do it? I was actually thinking of doing just one for now and do the rest as needed. Thanks

You COULD be having to replace the injectors on RX-7... which is about 10 times worse. (So be happy you're working on the Maxima
)I've actually never replaced them on the Maxima (done the RX-7 twice
), but I've had all the stuff apart to do it. (Had a leaking fuel line)Anyway, from what I remember seening I believe you will have to at least lift up on the fuel rail to disengage the injector from the fuel rail. You may want to replace the O-rings on all the injectors and also replace the fuel lines under the manifold. If you do replace the fuel line make certian that you get fuel injector hose. Normal "fuel line" is not rated for the pressures that an FI system produces. Also remember to lube up the O-Rings with a light oil before putting the injector back into the rail. This should prevent the "pinched o-ring" problem and allow it all to seat properly.
Good luck,

As soon as I get the car back from the shop (leaky crankcase) I will look into taking care of this injector business...BTW you wouldn't know where the best deal is for OEM injectors, would you?????

a newbie replacing injoctors!!!!
I am thinking of replacing a bad fuel injector on my 94 maxima myself, I have never done that before. I found the document that discusses the process but I have a few questions:
1) When there is a removing sequence for bolts, would you put them back and torque them in the same sequence or reverse order of the removing sequence?
2)How would I know that what I have done was right or not right to that matter? Mainly what to look for after finishing the repair.
Please help, I am getting sick of paying my dealer $700 each time an injector goes bad.
Thanks,
Al

I sadly paid (120 per injection) for the all replacement, Because I had no time. But you can buy some from someone :cough: Internetautomar :cough: for a cheaper price. Keep the good ones as replacement.
94 GXE injector replacement
I wanted to share my fuel injector experience with you guys because it was tough as hell but I got er done and all is well with my 94 GXE now. Becuse of this site and all the great info I saved about 800 bucks doing the injector change myself. If you need more info on how to do it, let me know and I will post my pics and links to the info I used. You can do it yourself and it's not that hard...just time consuming, depending on the amount of beer you drink during the task, of course
.
.
I just did my set of injectors and it took me about 5 hours total. Once you get to the injectors it is easiest to remove the rail from the engine and to then knock out the bad injector from the bottom. You should also replace the fuel hose as earlier mentioned.
I bought a whole bunch of used injectors from fellow maxim.org members and then replaced all 6 at one time. the car purrs now.
I have a whole set of 6 left if anyone is interested.

Since you pulled them from a wreck you got to practice with no chance of screwing up your car and you've spent less then $200 for 6 better then new injectors.
BTW, get NEW O-rings. Don't **** around, just do it. It'll cost you a few dollars more, but it costs less the watching your car go up in flames because you reused your 15 year old, dry, cracked shriveled original O-rings.
Taking off the fuel rail will make it a breeze to knock off the injectors. I just patched with a towel and hammer them off one by one in split seconds without even any damaging the injectors. The o-rings should be lubricated with engine oil and installed REALLY carefully. I hold the injector and housing horizontally. Push while turn.
The whole process took me a little over 2 hours from begining. But i did it a few times... The fuel hoses on the rail should be replaced while you got the chance.
