new gasket for throttle body?

I just cleaned the throttle body and re-used the old gasket. could that cause the air leak? how do you check if you have air leak? thanks

PS. is there any place except dealers I can buy a gasket?

Yes it could cause an air leak! You've broken the seal. The gasket isn't really that much but check with Courtesy Nissan.

Thanks, Chris. But how do you check if there's an air leak and does it cause a damage if not fixed right away?

Ways to tell could be if you hear a whistling when idling or accelerating. You can check like checking a leak on a tire, spit on the throttle body and smooth it out along the seal (yum). It won't bubble becuase air is being pulled in, but you should be able to notice some movement. It shouldn't hurt anything, just might make the engine run off a little sucking in more air that is not being read by the MAF. More annoying than anything else if whistling.

Every time I have done a TB cleaning I have replaced the gasket. The reason being because its under $5 bucks. The ***** part is taking the old one off.

Never had a problem though.

Thanks, Chris and Superdesi. I wanted to replace but several dealers did not have it in stock. Gotta order. I hear no whistling though. I'll try the saliva test later. Just a weird thing I notice is that sometimes idle just fluctuates when not step on gas. I just replaced an OEM filter. Does anyone know what it is with the idle? thanx
