Skyline Engine

Hey guys, I have a question for you, I have a friend who is a real Nissan Enthusiast he owns a body shop and does lots of work to Nissans, he has 300zx twin turbo and an Altima with some interesting engine its very fast. Anyway, I took my Maxima to show it to him and he said that for around $4500 he thinks he could put the engine from a Nissan Skyline in my car, He said the engines are very cheap because Japan emission laws require the engines to be sold after 60,000 miles. He said the skyline engine was small in size and very would lightweight and with little modification would fit in my car. Has anyone here ever even heard of this? or Know if this is at all possible.

Geez, for that money even I'd have a shot at fabricating up some mounts and slipping an RB20DE (R32 N/A) into your car. Of course it would cost another $4500 to connect it to anything.

Second hand RB26DETT's still have large demand in Japan meaning expensive, a good R34 GTR motor is still huge $$$.

Don't be suckered, keep the money in your pocket or fit a VG30ET. That should be a snap for this conversion king.

Yeah right!

1) 60,000 mile emission thing is a myth. I am from Japan and while 60,000 miles is a lot in Japan, there is nothing that says the engine must be sold. Many cars are traded in or even junked around this mileage (it takes about 10 years to drive 60,000 miles in Japan) as the value of the car depreciated to the point where it is not worth keeping. Cars depreciate much faster in Japan. Also, there is a government inspection that must be done every couple of years to register your car called "Shaken" to certify your car is in proper working order. Cost to do this can easily top $1000. Hence cars are junked, engines removed and sold overseas....

2) Skyline are RWD and have inline-6s and the RB25 and RB26 series engines are very long. Won't fit period. About as realistic as trying to put on a size 8 shoe when your foot is a size 11.

serious, the skyline is RWD? I thought it was an AWD.
Anyway, bout putting the engine in, it'll be hard.
Hell, the reason they coulndt bring it over here
was cuz they couldnt find a simple solution to
swapping right hand drive to left hand drive.
plus for a 2.6 litre, it's pretty big
with a lotta bodywork and creative thinkin,
you could get it in there

probably not
