Just Installed New Hood Supports
I just wanted to share this information with everybody. I bought my Hood Supports from Carparts.com for about $63 after shipping and tax. They were listed as "Strong Arm Gas Charged Hood Supports (LH or RH)". I had to buy two different hood supports ... one for left and one for right side. They work great! It comes with the new adapter metal piece to make it fit perfectly to your hood. Now I can check the fluid levels without propping the hood on my head. hehehe

I used a putter. I bought the supports for $28.95 each. I checked Pep Boys, Auto Zone, and Checkers. They all wanted about $50 each for them, if they had them in stock. So, carparts.com was my best bet.

Hood lifts
I used the Gabriels 901223-PB. Also from Carparts.com. $20.and-some change before any discount. Left and right are the same. You use the existing bracket on the hood, and you have to drill it out slightly. But for $40.00 no more headaches (literally and figuratively)

The hood supports that I bought from Carparts.com were two different supports. That's because the metal bracket comes with it. You don't have to drill out anything...just bolt on the new one in the place of the old support.
GABRIEL Part No. 4913 (LH) $28.95
GABRIEL Part No. 4914 (RH) $28.95
Go to www.carparts.com and type in your car. Click on "Replacement". Scroll down to the "Body and Trim" section and click on "Exterior - Doors, Hood, Hatch, Cowl and Components". You will see two Strong Arm; Gas Charged; Hood Supports listed. One for the right and one for the left.
That is what you would see if you typed in a 1992 Nissan Maxima SE. I hope this helps.

I know the feeling, My right hand almost ended up with 3 fewer fingers when I was changing my antifreeze.

HAHAHA! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with that problem! On another note, I got my car back from the mechanic, and noticed the hood wasn't seated right. Turns out he left a spark plug in the space between the frame and the hood! Could've ruined my hood! Sometimes I wonder about that guy...

actually what's more interesting is that after i read this post, i went over to the GD forum and someone was trying to start a group deal on these. so if any of you still want this product stay tuned in to that thread for future details if this ever happens.

Mine are still fine but I am getting a CF hood to take the stress off them instead of buying new ones down the road Now my freind who has had two maximas (99.5/92) had his hood shocks bad on both. We grab what ever is in sight to hold the hood up its very annoying

I saw on another board that if you use Strong Arm #4254 for the hood lifts, you can get them for $16/each (a bit cheaper then what everyone else is quoting). This was a 4th generation forum, will these same lifts work for us 3rd gens?
