Identify the part...

I think I might have a major problem.

There's this huge giant bracket underneath my car that runs from the front (under the radiator) to somewhere in the middle of the underbody.

The area to which the front of the bracket is attached is almost completely rusted out. The bracket is just barely hanging by a little bit of metal and looks as if it's going to break off any second.

If anyone can shed some light on what this is, I'd appreciate it.
I'm bringing it to the mechanic tomorrow but I don't want my engine
falling out on me or anything.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

I think I know what you are talking about. It is underbody support just kind of supports I guess.HAHA! But you should be alright as long as the motor mounts are there the motor shouldnt fall out. Just take it easy on it until you get to the mechanic.

Not good, that crossmember supports two engine mounts.

As has been said, that long part that runs under your engine is the crossmember.. it holds up the engine.. there's about 500lb of weight on those 4 bolts on the ends of it- tons more when you start driving the car, as the engine torques and pulls on them.

you need to get that fixed ASAP! driving that car is dangerous until the problem is fixed.
