exhaust questions

My exhaust is on its way out and I'm trying to decide what to replace it with. I read some stuff in some other forums that seemed to make sense about not opening up the exhaust too much because it will reduce the back pressure too much. But, may of the high flow mufflers I've read about claim to eliminate back pressure. So, I don't know which is best. Also, if I go stock from the cat back and then add a high flow muffler, will it make much of a difference. Finally, any suggestions on muffler brands, as far as performance, pricing, waurantee, and very importantly sound. I don't want something that's very loud at all, but a little deeper sound than stock would be nice. Thanks.

hi-flow wmufflers will show little to no gain.....just make things louder. if you're looking for a complete exhaust system go here--> http://www.warpspeedperformance.com/nissan.htm

and stepping up to 2.5" piping will be fine and loss of backpressure will be less than noticable!

I'm 99% sure its giving you little to no gains(maybe 1-2hp if any) over the OEM muffler....but you can't beat the throaty and deep sound of a Flowmaster! point blank though, most mufflers are for show or to "complete" the entire exhaust system.

ohh ok i mis read the first person`s question, u meant that if you kept the stock piping and just added a new muffler u will see no gains..

i have new piping along with the muffler so i forgot, that its the piping that frees the hp, not the muffler

im so stupid

well, still there are very little gains with justa a muffler and 2.5" piping....maybe 3-5hp at the most...the big improvements in exhaust come when you put a Y-pipe on!
