I got 17 mpg city now that I cleaned up my fuel rail. But how do you find out if any injectors are bad?

well, when ur car sounds like a small block chevy, and it takes nearly forever to hit 60 mph, there u go.

also, u can do the good ol' pull the plug trick. plug out the connections to each injector, if there is no engine idle difference, u have a bad injector.

the only time I keep track of my MPG is on road trips. I usually get 29 or 30 mpg.

oh btw i'm gettin 19c/24h with broken stud/exhaust leak. VG auto.
now that i've swapped for a 5speed i get 23c/31h (yeah... the split grew some). Haven't seen a tank less than 26mpg in 2 months. Word. Best tank ever was 28.9mpg with about 65% highway. Once i move i'll be getting even better since i'll be going 18mi on the interstate and 1 mile of city driving on both ends as my daily commute.

theoretical 535mi/tank FTW? (most driven was 480 miles on a tank)

VE auto-
all city, lots of short trips. (car warming up/running cold) 14-16mpg

50hwy/50city short trips = 17-19mpg

all hwy= 26-28mpg

Just curious... doing lots of sea foam treatments over the years and having an injector that I think was leaking at an o-ring.. can that kill on O2 sensor? Its about 3years old

me too. i've seen as low as 13mpg the first few months i had it, 16-17 for a long time, and since i fixed the o2 i'm in the low 20s, and with the tranny swap and my driving style i'm into the high 20s. i'm just looking for that first three-oh.

I had it down in the sub teens most of the time. 14mpg was my normal mpg. of course that didn't matter what car I am in either.
Now that I'm working for myself and driving more, I'm pushing higher teens for MPG, but not in a max..

even in slow acceleration (driving behind a 18wheeler that you can't pass, etc)?

i rarely top 2500rpm on my high-reading tach, so in reality, rarely top 2300 unless i'm on the highway/merging. but in normal city driving i rarely top 2300rpm.

Most of the time

the vast majority of the time I drive with it up to 4000 5000 but when traffic gets bad I have to drive like a normal person and that drives me crazy, 2300? do you get tailgated constantly

only once up to speed... car accelerates fine at 2300 shifts, but i don't go but 5 over once at speed. that's why i get tailgated. not from slow acceleration.

i value my car (and my money) too much to drive it that hard all the time. yeah sometimes i'll let loose and WOT to 75mph, do a peelout (esp after being angry from having been shot with an airsoft gun...), whatever, but it's not typical.

just for S&G can i get a vid of your typical driving habits? I'll make one for you to show how shifting at 2300 really isn't that slow (matter of fact i was out-accelerating cars around me and often had to hit the brakes as soon as i got into 4th on several occasions...)

but the shifting style really helps my MPG to go from 22-23 avg to 26-27 avg. Tho as crappy as my car runs sometimes i really wonder HOW it's using so little fuel... i have a slight miss (injector or compression i'm guessing) that i can occasionally feel through the shifter even on brand-new asphalt, plus exhaust leaks and who knows what else? I'm almost afraid to rebuild my other engine, for fear that it won't be as efficient. Tho i don't see how it possibly couldn't...

if you have a slight injector-not-firing issue, that may be helping with mpgs. if you have sufficient power, not sending fuel to that cylinder on its turn may be helpful. there are cars(dodge comes to mind first) that shut off cylinders when not needed. although their system is more elegant, you could be benefiting from the same principle(doubtful, but not unheard of)

If i can figure out a way to post a legal video of my driving habits then i'd be more than willing, I live in the foothills of the rockies so the lights are pretty spaced out and the speed limit for most roads are 45 or above, even then i normally go 1-5000 shift to 2-4800 (around 55mph) then to fifth gear.

highway is another story

No, you don't..There is something else wrong with your car causing bad gas mileage.

Mine have been grounded for 7 years/w 450 miles to a tank highway mileage.

did any of you look at the torque band at the bottom corner. VTC off, only off. meaning it always be off.. you will get the curve marked I, meaning your torque curve shifted to higher RPMS, and you have less power when you low rev. and this will not affect gas mileage?

2.5 mile commute each way to work and the car sitting to full cold.
didn't matter what car I drove 14mpg was the highest attainable.
anything from an 06 yukon-92 legacy FWD.

I don't have that commute anymore. now I drive around more during the day and get 18mpg.
the salt this year was terrible, it really ate the subie up. I have to decide whether to fix it or just leave it alone.

Getting back to my VTC saving gas, when you ground it, the solenoid stops the oil flowing out. So the sprocket fills with oil, and pushes the spring so it doesn't clatter anymore. But there is a 28 degrees of over lap between the closing of the exhaust valve and the opening of the intake valve. (grounding VTC= VTC on all the time) More oxygen rich air rushes in and your exhaust is thrown out faster, and more fuel is induced. you burn more fuel at lower RPMS. in city druving, MPG is the same for highway driving since the VTC comes on at 2000 rpm I believe.

I feel your pain, mines about 1- 1.5mile commute, I get to work and the car is just warmed up. waiting until it warms up to drive it my 1.5miles is probably even more of a waste of gas eh?

yeah... unfortunately for you having fixed the o2 sensor will not help you at all on such short trips because it will never be activated.

yeah
if it's only you commuting, I would recommend a bicycle or scooter.
me, I was taking 2 kids to school/bus daily so I couldn't take a scooter or bicycle to work.

wanna see a change in mileage???

use lucas in your maxima, and go about 115 on your local highway which is most free of cops. in my case i had to go onto I 95 in philadelphia, which i do evryday. i was feelin a diffrence, so i sped up, and as soon as i get off the e-way, no misfire.

works. try it.

I can drive 500-550 km pr tank. (50% highway, 50% city) is this normal?
Anything to clean that will help? (dont think anything's been cleaned since new, except air filter replaced and oil+filter)

i believe a engine flush helps, i got one with my last oil change and my mileage went from super shi**y to just really shi**y.

I blow though a tank of gas every 4-5 days, and its usually less
