what's your mpg reading?

since I changed my leaky fuel lines, both the metal and rubber lines...it helps out a lot going from 15/12 to 20/15 (hw/c) but still that's pure crap. Everything was tuned up, I even changed my O2 prematurely and it didn't so squat. What reading are you guys getting?

I'm getting 20 city 25 highway in my VE5. Do you have an auto, that could make a slight difference.

I get 22mpg in city driving aggressively and about 27-28 on the highway, with a leaky exhaust. I usually get 24-25mpg mixed. And due to my leaky exhaust some times i get 25mpg highway and some times 28...

broken exhaust studs, and any leak pre o2 sensor will kill your mpg as well. I did a full tuneup when I got the car, minus the o2 sensor.

I replaced : (when i got the car 186K miles)
NGK plugs
8.5mm wires (magnecore from advance auto)
dist cap and rotor
air filter
fuel filter

And I ended up replacing an injector right at 200K. You should check and make sure your injectors aren't leaky or partially stuck open.

that POS puts out a very strong gas smell at the exhaust, it smells like unburned gas. I used an advanced timing gun, set it to 0 and adjusted my TBD to 15 degree. Alex might be right about broken studs, but I don't hear any rattling noises though? Everything seems smooth except for poor mpg. One time, the darn ignition warning light went up and I was able to get very good mpg at 28/19 but as soon as the light went away, I went back to poor gas performance. What in the world is going on? What a pos car.

I still get low 20s around town and high as 30 MPG if it's all highway. This car even still has the original O2 sensor.

^ nice nick name

try using a fuel injector cleaner, reduce the weight of the vehicle, increase the tire PSI, fix any codes if u have any (15 mpg sucks unless u r driving a hummer, tank, or a mercedez mayback or a rolls roys)

those are the basics where i would start, there is a lot more to it

haha, absolutely. clean iacv, and also, check ECM codes. look in the stickies at the top of this forum, and it's in the general repair info, post #19 i believe. Basically, in layman's, pull off the black panel next to your passenger's left foot. break the seal over the screw on the metal box there. put in a screwdriver bit. turn ignition to ON. turn screw clockwise, wait for it to blinkblink ... ... blinkblinkblink.. turn it counterclockwise. wait for separate red and green blinks. red red (2) green green green green (4) = 24. red (1) green (1) = 11, and so on. report your error code to us. 55 is what you want to see.

also change your PCV valve, check your plugs (and distributor contacts and rotor tip if you have a vg), and if your o2 sensor is really old, replace it, but it's pricier than the other things.

hellz no. 18.5. i just put in 16.122 the other day

shoot for 350 miles before refilling unless your gas mileage REALLY sucks. my car could have run 450 miles on this past tank.

10-15 mpg...depends on how i drive. 3" exhaust all of the way from the manifolds back, tho. AND the o2 sensor is probably bad.

Mostly i get around 18, i have gotten 21 before but that was when on the highway for a couple hours, the only time i have gotten bad gas mileage was when i raced an audi 2000 Audi A4 (which i beat by the way) and i got 12 mpg. Other than that i have noticed that me tripometer likes to stop and start again on its own at certain numbers. Its like it sticks because the previous owner was a smoker. Also, mine is an auto so it gets less than those lucky people with manual transmissions.

hmm yeah my light came on at like 350 this time. I think. can't swear to it. Not bad for letting my friend drive my car, and he has a lead foot, plus a bunch of decent throttle on my part too. Sputtering happened RIGHT AT 400 to the tank... but the thing said I put in 16.5, meaning i still had 2 gallons to burn.. maybe the handle clicked off too soon.

I've been on an upward trend lately, started off with the normal cap, rotor, plugs and wires tune up and got up to 18 average, cleaned tb, intake and IACV got up to 21, replaced TPS, CTS, injectors, cleaned all wire harness connectors, replaced O2 sensor and got up to 24, replaced MAF and on last tank I averaged 26 mixed highway/city.. I'm pretty happy with that and have ran out of things to clean/replace so I guess it's finally on to actual mods now that everything is pretty much new in the Max.

I get right around 20 mpg, but I know that I have issues I need to fix, so I figure it probably has a bit more mileage in it if I take care of all the problems.

At what point is that light supposed to come on? My gauge came to a little below the very bottom line, but the light still didn't come on, so I played it safe and filled her up anyway. Put in 16.5 galons.

37.17 mpg Highway, yes 37. Its 85.5 miles worth of highway from school to my home, and I fill up right after I get off, ussually taking about 2.3 gallons. Speed is always between 85-95 and I rarely if ever touch the brake. City, not so much maybe 15-17 mpg. VE auto btw.

So you are getting 600+ miles per tank?! That is amazing!

I've hit 29 and 30mpg a few times on a full tank. That was over 450 miles. My normal highway mileage is 26-28mpg.

With my 50/50 mix of city/highway driving, I average 24mpg pretty easily and my car sees redline a lot.

All city driving is about 19-21mpg for me.

No that is pure highway driving, with city/regular driving mixed in I get about 25ish. If i did drive for 600 miles on the highway then theoreticaly I would get 600+. Still don't know what is causing it, I haven't had a chance to check out my plugs to see if I run am running a little lean on any cylinders, but i kinda don't want to fix it.

Wow, Josh, that's impressive. I got a bit over 500 miles a tank a few years ago visiting my GF who went to school in Arkansas, and I thought that was impressive.

I was getting 15mpg before I did the 5 speed swap. After I did the swap I'm getting 20-23mpg city(NYC). I put in a Warpspeed Y-pipe and a high flow exhaust.

I get about 17 city, but over 25 mpg highway, in a 5-speed VE. The car has a rotten Y-pipe and the injectors o-rings aren't so great. I used to get almost 20 in suburban driving, close to 30 on the highway. How fast do you drive on the highway? I do 70-75 and use the cruise when possible, that helps. Also, if you're smelling gas, your injectors or o-rings could be bad, which won't help your mpg.

dude you get 37 mpg?? Thats crazy. So you commute to west lafayette everyday. I could NEVER do that, my friend. I've never seen your car driving around campus though. You gotta stop by to check my ride out sometime.

ANYWAYS.....I just finished a bbk setup all around, 5 spd lsd transmission, stage 2 ltb, rear parallel links, full tanabe exhaust, new tires, UDP, and some other stuff over the past month. It's like driving an entirely different car. My gas milage went from like 350 mi a tank to like 250 just because its so much more fun to drive now. the auto is MUCH better with the gas. Oh well, i go faster now. Me and a buddy took the car out to a cornfield stretch to see how fast we could get. I wan't watching the speedo but he said that the last digits he saw were climbing past 135...so thats fun. I don't advocate that though....I just happened to get all that sweet stuff for the car and HAD to max it out. It was still going but there was a hill comming up so I slowed down... that could have had an effect on why I only got 250 mi to this tank though. just maybe.

since I have moved from Los Angeles to a desert out in Arizona, I'm back to a normal 19 mpg (city) / 23 mpg (hwy). I guess LA heavy traffic is not so gas friendly after all.

i have 2 bad injectors, so my gas mileage REALLY BLOWS.

as soon as i get my injectors replaced, im going to throw a y pipe exhaust and find a cold air intake on it, nd see if there is any difference

VG Auto, 186K miles by the way
