Electrical Ideas

I had some ideas the other night anyone one know how hard this would be?

1st idea: I drive through the Texas Hill Country alot at night and need all the lighting i can get. I am contemplating doing an e36 conversion with projectors and HIDs. But that is around $500 and I dunno how good the e36's will look so might just start with the 9007 conversion. It would be nice to have the both cornering lights come on either by switch or with the high beams.

2nd idea: I noticed the keyless entry is disabled with the key in the ignition. I have gotten spoiled with the remote start in my 4Runner. I can leave it running and take the key with me and lock the doors. I would like to be able to use the keyless entry with the ar still running on the maxima. I know I can't take the key but would like it for checking the mail at my apt or running back inside for forgotten cell phone etc. I want to be able to get out, lock it with the keypad and unlock it too.

On the 1st idea, Craig's site tells you how to rewire the cornering lights so they are bright all the time.

http://www.geocities.com/craigbrace/

Go for the 9007 conversion. It's probably one of the most cost-effective lighting improvement mods out there. Probably one of the best mods I did to the car to date.

well.. i have a 90 GXE and i can start my car, lock the doors by hitting the lock switch on the inside, then shutting the door WHILE holding the door handle on the outside out until it's shut. that locks the doors and they don't pop up. they my password gets me back in.

OT: If you leave a car idling here (Toronto) for over 3 minutes you're subject to a $125 fine.

Thanks kinda gay. You'll spend more on the ticket than the gas used in 3 minutes

On the other note, is it for pollution purposes?

In the winter we do. It's 26º this week though. But yeah, the biyatch about the idling thing is, it sorta takes the beauty out of the remote start feature when it's 30 below.

Mine won't let me lock the doors when it is running. As soon as I hit the lock button with the door open and the car running, it unlocks them again. I guess to prevent you from locking the keys in the car. Maybe I will just install another remote start like the one in the 4Runner so I can use the same remote for both.

i carry a spare key in my wallet and in the winter i will sometimes start the car, close the door, and then use the extra key to manually lock it. it would be nice to have a remote start but i have a 5spd so i don't think thats possible...

that's how you keep it from popping back up. i'll make a video if you want proof.

but it only works on a GXE though if you use your keypad. otherwise you have to have a spare.

Can't see the point with either ideas, but I've done things to my car that aren't necessarily accepted either. 1. Answered. 2. I think the easiest thing would be to go with piggybacking an aftermarket alarm with your stock remote (tapping into lights, horn, etc). Then, you would need to leave disconnected the input from the ignition switch that tells the alarm not to arm during running. Perhaps this input is to prevent the system from arming and possibly triggering the starter/ign kill feature? Either way, you can keep your remote seperate from keys and lock/unlock while out of vehicle while it idles.

I looked at a VE-5 that had a viper remote start, it's possible. Had the moon roof and windows on it too. Neat.

I thought it blinded oncoming traffic and scattered the beam in general on the Maxima headlights. Am I wrong?

i did some searching and yeah people have done it. i assumed it couldn't be done, or rather shouldn't be done, because of the possibility of starting the car in gear but i see that can be solved which is very cool. i am going to start looking for a viper alarm

yeah well, you can't even take your key out when in gear so... that shouldn't be a problem, as long as you have an automatic. if you have a manual then yeah (in some other post after this one) it's gotta be in N.
