Hi, I have a 92 Maxima body with an 89 motor(3.0 SOHC) and an auto tranny. My mechanic and I put a full gasket set on the motor and changed the tranny fluid. The car idle's fine but when put in gear it drops below parked idle. When it is driven it accelerate at a fast rate, it just slowly moves. We used the top of the intake from the motor it came out of because of the fuel injection and most of the components(alternator, battery, distributor, cap, rotor, power steering) were brought new within a year. Does this sound like a tranny computer problem from the switch of the years? If so where could I hook a tester up to the car to find the right code to find out?

did the car have a ve engine in it before hand? when i had a ve ecu in a vg the check engine light would come on at like 3500 rpm. i figured it was because it wasn't twin cam. car wasn't sluggish though but was a 5 speed.

I had an 89 GLE with the same problem with the transmission. I was not about to pay $1800 to replace it, so I traded it in with 316,000 miles on it and got $3000 for it because the appraser liked the digital dash (that didn't work when it was cold).

i would assume he meant a 92gxe.. because of this "We used the top of the intake from the motor it came out of because... " indicating he took parts from the 92 motor to put on top of the 89.
