My first trip to a drag strip (video)
Yup. It's official - the VE30DE 5spd is a grrrr...animal!
My naturally flatulent VE5 took to the track for the first time.
Enjoy my lighthearted look at my best run - a 15.3 @ 89.45mph.
Look out 14's. In due time...
MM
Looks crappy all compressed and squished on YouTube, but it's free hosting...

Alex I just found the music off a CD. And I threw in some barnyard animals fx for the 'moronic effect'.
Yeah Brian, I can't touch AWD. Just gotta 'love the one your with' so-to-speak.
Thanks for the cute baby approval. She's a good egg!
Hey does anyone know the official 92 SE (Manual) stock time? I see a 15.7 listed for the 92 automatic.

^^ thanks Taylor ^^
hmm... kind of disheartening that I only managed to tie the Car & Driver numbers, considering I have the Fidanza, CAI, Y-pipe, etc...
Then again, their test was done with a new engine and tranny with a pro behind the wheel, and mine is 16 yrs old. I guess there's something good to be found in that.
Time for more mods...

all factors that can slow you down

what kind of wheels and tires do you run? how's your suspension (sloppy suspension means car rocks back too much which drops traction on initial launch).. um, also they could have been doing that run at a higher air density than you got
all factors that can slow you down

Not sure about air density, but I know heat-soak was a factor on the day I ran.
If you have an old (original) knock sensor, you probably are getting heat soak, especially if your car never has a good chance to cool down.
Also keep weight in mind. Take out the crap in your trunk, extra stuff in the car, keep the gas tank kind of empty -- like at a 1/4 or so (depends on how many runs and how close the nearest gas station is to the track). If you take out the seats, that is probably close to 100 lbs. You can take those out in just a few minutes.
You will get there. You didn't give us your 60 foot time. Cutting that down is what usually translates into better times. You can drop the front air pressure to help with traction, too.
I ran a 14.8 and my mods are only a y-pipe, fidanza, ACT, UDP, HAI, Greddy cat-back. I took out the seats and spare to get that time, too.

What altitude are you at? Higher altitude = less dense air = slower times.

Orig knock sensor.
All crap was out of trunk, including spare, seats were left in though.
Tank was below 1/4 for all runs - planned it that way.
My timeslip is in my sig and has all my times, but I can tell you I consistently had 2.2 60ft on all my runs.
Air pressure was dropped to 24psi.
I think a few things can really help me.
- A freer flowing exhaust: I have the y-pipe, and I have a dual chamber straight through muffler, but I lack a b-pipe/catback.
- Timing/air/fuel tweaking.
- more track experience, and a few other things I'm not thinking of lol.
Not to mention I have about 170,000 miles on this engine. Gah!
Thanks for the input Cliffy.
Awesome video (i posted you a comment
)
Im gonna start heading to the track when it gets cooler and after my clutch replacement
I know what would help you out with that heat soak
Aaron92se' spacer kit
