VG30DETT swap

In the near future (in 1-3 years), i was hoping to swap out my puny stock V6 for a JDM VG30DETT engine, but some helpful critiscism/feedback would be helpful.

First, possible? I know they're both 3L V6's of completely different designes, and i know im going to have to gut engine compartment.
Will i have to rip everything completely out? I mean every last bit not part of the cars chassis?

second, what else needs replacing? I know the suspension and brakes are a given (i assume), and of course if i do in fact get this I'm going to splurge on a new performance exhaust system as well.

third, do you think this is even a good idea?

thanks for feedback in advance.

This question has been asked on here numerous times. You might have better luck searching. But I know no one has done the swap, no one thinks it is a good idea, and this thread will probably soon be locked.

I'd suggest, if you actually want to spend the time and money to turbo your VG30E.

The search function on these forums is, not the best. I find it doesn't agree with me.. Now if i actually pay money, i'll get a better search function? Neat. Until then, what is the most powerful yet practical engine you can jam in the 3L engine compartment?

the VQ30DE-K? Is there a racing version of the VQ30DE-K? And is it even possible with a little modding to fit any 3.5L engines into the compartment?

And if i may be so bold to ask, since the search function isn't really popping up anything helpful, what exactly about the idea of a VG30DETT swap is not practical/a good idea?

The VG30ETT heads are too large, you wont be able to close your hood after installation..Not to mention all the unforseen difficulties in fabricating custom parts to make this swap work.

you are more than welcome to try it,but don't come here for asking for guidance,as no one here has ever done this swap.

The VQ30DE is also a completely custom swap,no help here again..

modify the hood. simple.

edit: If it's only hood clearance, and not strut tower/firewall clearance issues.

we've done some modifications lately that involve SO MUCH more than a simple hood clearance solution....imho.

DOHC heads wont fit, it just wont even bolt up to the SOHC block.

Just turbo the stock VG, it can handle more power then the tranny can.

The VQ30 or 35 will fit, just needs lots of custom mounts and all that fun stuff. Probably not worth it unless you do it all yourself.

If you want DOHC in a maxima, sell yours and get a VE, as its just a VG30DE with different heads and a timing chain. Same (similar actually) block and internals.

As you well know modifying your hood is not a simple task(enter goon) imagine trying to modify your hood along with trying to mate a Vg30ETT to your drivetrain/axles/motormounts locations/ECU/wiring/etc etc etc....

could you do it without help/guidance?

No member of this forum has done this swap,so the OP of this thread is out of luck with this venture.

not saying the ENGINE portion would be easy, but as for the hood, we're not talking about the edges, or the forward roll....we're talking about cutting a section out, and rebracing, and filling however you need to

I.E. False Cowl. ;x

Well all the VG and VE series have the same bolt patterns. So bolting it in will work, closing the hood wont happen, having the tranny stand one boosted run wont happen, and enjoying the wiring wont happen.

Oh and running the exhaust, coolant lines, intake piping, that stuff probably wont all fit in there.

There's a first for everything guys..if you got money, you can do anything..but if he want's to "waste it" let him. It's his, not ours lol..just like that guy who twin-turboed his 3rd gen max (VE30DE) and no one thought that was possible(correct me if im wrong) and he did a lot of custom work that extended into the cabin.. but if you can get an LS1 Engine in a Honda Civic (EG[hatch]), you can get a VG30DETT in a turd gen Maxima...he's just gonna be a long mystical journey as others have stated, no one(here) has done this before.

Good luck finding all the information that you need and about $5K+!
