Driver side halfshaft

I need to remove an automatic tranny from my parts car. I got the right halfshaft out without a problem, but how the hell do I remove the left one? First of all, there's not nearly enough space to hit the screwdriver, let alone swing the hammer, because of that bracket. Second, there's no place to stick my head to actually see what the hell I'm doing. So what do I do?

I use a crowbar type tool to remove cv axles.. Stick it in between the tranny/axle end going into the tranny/then pop it out of there..

A longish flathead screwdriver also works well...
