Gas tank

Is there a way to drain a gas tank without removing or puncturing it? I couldn't see anything resembling a drain.

Remove the left rear tire. there is a vent hose that can be removed (remove clip). then put a siphon in thetank and siphon out all the gas.

see part 17226 , just above the arrow that says front

or you can remove the back seat, pull out fuel pump and siphon there which has the advantage of being able to see that you have emptied the tank completely

Hey, that's a hose that was leaking a while back. Everytime I parked on a slight slope, I'd come back and see a puddle under the car. I sealed it with some vinyl tape.

Both of these methods require a siphon. Guess I gotta go buy me a siphon.

If you're gonna remove the hose, replace it.

Yeah, that's probably a good idea in this case.

disconnect the fuel filter and route the feed line to a container and turn the key to "on" position letting the fuel preesure do the work

its not good to run your fuel pump dry so i would be cautious with that. if you have to get the tank completely empty you will still need the siphon.

easiest way:
put car on lift
put jack under tank
undo gas tank straps
place 5 gallon bucket under filler neck hose.
lower gas tank down slowly
tilt tank to empty gas into bucket
get second bucket if necessary.

Alright, cool. I was talking about my parts car, which is going to a junkyard pretty soon here. I stripped it of almost everything of value except the engine. It still has 3 or 4 gallons left in the tank, so I think why waste it?

Car smells like fuel; please help!!!

I know this is off topic a little bit, but I can't post new threads.

My '92SE smells of fuel big time! I just had the fuel pump replaced, and ever since the inside of the cabin reeks!

Any suggestions?

then you either have a loose line at the tank, or more than likely you need to do the fuel lines under the intake

The gasket on the fuel tank cover may be a problem, or you may not have put the fuel lines back on fully.

Please help

I just had my mechanic put a new fuel pump in, this fixed the solution to the car not starting, NOW there is a loud whining noise coming from the gas tank, he says its because i need a new fuel filter, can someone give me better opinion, or is my mechanics suggestion correct?

there should be some whining coming from the pump, however if it is loud then the pump is probably not the best one for the job

If you reuse the fuel make sure you separate out the water that's probably in the bottom of the tank below the pickup.
