question about front end shaking......

I recently posted about getting new rotors for my car because I thought the others were warped... First I took my car to nissan to get a free inspection done. They gave me a quote saying the rotors needed changed and outer tie rod end had some play but said the front end shaking on braking and at higher speeds 65-80 was most likely due to warped rotors. So,I got 2 new front tires because it was time and put 2 new rotors on.The problem for the shaking at higher speeds is still there but is goneat 55 and lower and braking.
I mean at 65 it seems as if the front end is going to fall off and is really bad. I did not change the pads with the rotors because they were 80% left.

Heres the question...What else could cause this shaking at higher speeds?Could the brake pads be warped and rub at higher speeds causing this?
I planned on selling the car this summer when the wifes car is paid off but
dont know if it will make it another day. any ideas or help would be appreciated.

I would replace the brake pads anyway, cheap and provides peace of mind. Always good to check something inexpensive off the list.

I assume the new tires were balanced when you got them? Perhaps you should get a high speed alignment as well. Are you positive your rims have no bends?

How are your struts? Did you physically inspect your suspension parts? This is an easy subject to search on. If you can't find a remedy I'd suggest looking around.

i'd blame the tie rod.
I would however sand your brake pads down a bit, and give the rotor a finish cut so they can bed to one another properly this time.

I've had tires cause that problem on my car. Transmission can also do that IIRC cuz my moms friend had an 87 pathfinder a while back and when she'd go 70 or more it'd shake, it was her trans.

I'm gonna say Tie rod as well since it IS a steering component and can well be the culprit.

what I did

When I bought my 2000 Maxima GLE I noticed after a few days that the wheel and front end would shake pretty bad when i was on the interstate and needed to slow down quickly
I changed my front rotors and all my pads (the old pads were almost new) but I figured while I was doing it to go a head and change.
I have heard that you should change pads with rotors so they bed together properly. I also got my tires balanced and the difference was night and day. My wheel no longer shakes and the front end seems fixed.
Your issue does sound more severe and I think slick-back has the right idea on checking your whole suspension (especially the tie rod).

Change those pads and make sure you have an alignment and tire balance.

thanks guys.... I jacked the car up today and the drivers wheel has play"left to right"
to wheres the passenger side is tight... I should've changed the pads but went the cheapo way...I'm going to replace the left outer tie rod which nissan said $140 bucks for.
I can't do it myself so, I'm going to do that first because it needs fixed anyways...

I'll update when thats done...hopefully that will fix it

dont they move a little left to right usually? only ,together.
and the steering wheel will wiggle a little while you wiggle the tires together

all 4 wheels again....Total bill was 140 for tie rod, labor, alignment, and balance...I thought that was a great deal for the dealership.

I'm back cruisin 75-80 smooth

That is an EXCELLENT price coming from a dealership. I bet they used generic/aftermarket parts though...which is fine.

A lot of Nissan dealerships here are $120-$140 Hourly labor rate so you definately got a good deal.

Hey you're in IL right? or is TX? I forget...
