I have an oil leak and after a quick glance, it look slike it is dripping off the transmission housing. I am thinking rear main seal. I looked and the valve covers appear to be dry. Sounds like this is gonna be difficult.

 

wipe it up and see where it comes from, rear main seal isnt to difficult.

 

I guess you don't consider removing engine or trans too difficult

 

not after i did it 6 times in 1 week, i can replace a clutch on my vg in about 30-45 minutes now.

 

Try changing the oil pan gasket first, might be coming from there. I changed my rear main while the engine was out and that specific part of the repair had me swearing the most.

 

I haven't really looked yet. How hard is the oil pan gasket? I have a new engine gasket set. I wonder if it included a oil pan gasket.

 

You should try and do a pan gasket and rear main on a ford e-150 van.

 

I have a spare VG pan gasket for sale

You have to support the engine, remove the cross member, and then remove the pan.

 

First I'd have to try to buy domestic

 

pan gasket on a cadillac. exhaust has to be cut off and welded back. the

 

I have an extra rear main if you like.

 

We did and that was FUN! had to jack the engine up to try and get the damn pan out of the crossmember frame thingy since it was on both freakin sides

Hey Ben, the oil pan is pretty time consuming, took me about 2-3 hours at work... gotta support the engine/trans, remove crossmember, y pipe can hang down, engine/trans coverplates and some other small things. It'll take you a good time doing it in a garage on your back. Its not hard nor expensive just time consuming.

If you DO do it, be sure to not start the car right away like i did I was so excited that I finished and could go home that I forgot you had to build pressure for like 30 seconds or something.

 

And remove the dipstick before installing the pan!

 

YES, I didnt do that and I thought I farked everything up when I head a loud clicking clacking

 

well whatever is leaking is superslow. I stuck a piece of cardboard underneath and when I pulled it out, it was dry. Turns out looks like the puddles are coolant from my 4Runner.
