Like I said over a week ago. go to sears and buy a 3/4" drive breaker bar and socket. stop at the hardware store and pick up about 8' of pipe. you can thank me later.

Sure, but you'll need an alignment after.

He's trying to unbolt the ball joint to remove the axle. He says that he stripped out one or more of the ball joint nuts, so he's wondering if he can unbolt the lower part of the strut to remove the axle.

well that was easy... took a little time to recruit my step dad into helping me lol... and dropping tranny next sat because im working A LOT until then

but undoing those bolts saved me from stripping the strut mounts more. My step dads 300 lbs friend couldnt even get it loose and broke ANOTHER breakerbar (good thing it was craftsmen). But undoing those bolts was enough for the axle to pull out.

for next sat. Do I need to support the engine with a jack or can i just let it lay on the cross member?

ahh.. yeah.. that's how I do it. why were you trying to remove the entire strut? the only way I pull the axle is by pulling the two lower strut bolts. and yanking the spindle out of the way.

Yes, once the tranny is out, you can just let the engine rest on the crossmember. it'll lean a bit to the pass side, but no big deal. the mounts will support it just fine.

IDK about that, I did that on mine and now the rear mount is torn. Next time I do that Im going to put some wood or a small jack under the engine to keep it level.

it's got to lean to the driver side for the tranny to come out maybe, but you can put something to keep it from staying leaned the other way. just pile up some bricks beneath the oilpan while your engine is leaning for tranny removal and put a towel on top of your little stack. or use a jack with a wood block for a more precise leveling. I used a scissor jack for that, simply because it's more reliable and safer to leave there than a hydraulic jack. my hydraulic jack is garbage anyhow... max lift is WAY too short.

I was just talking about leaving it like that, next time I pull just the tranny I'll take it off, then support the engine so it doesn't lean then un support it when I put the tranny back on. My engine spent a week unsupported, thats probably why I busted a mount, that and the mileage any way.

just lean the engine back up and stick a 2x4 against the pass side frame rail and the engine then. not a big deal. didn't bother my mounts at all tho.

wow, good luck with that. ;x I used a 17", 1/2" breaker bar from O'reilly's and just jumped on it a few times

when i remove my axles, the ONLY bolts i remove are the lower strut housing bolts and i take the caliper off and hang it on the springs......just take the bolts out and then lean the hub out of the way JUST enough to pull the axle out towards the front...it doesn't take a lot of pressure, so it won't damage the ball joint or tie rod.

BTW, i have a lifetime alignment at firestone, so i can go back as many times as i want, at no charge (which i go in and watch what they do, so i can be sure it is TRULY aligned, and that they break nothing.)

Also, if you were to ever plan on using heat to break something loose, be CAREFUL, as that hub does have bearings in it, and i'm sure that EXTREME heat brought on by a torch cannot be good for them.

My transmission is out right now also, as my clutch went out a couple days ago, so i took some pics for you

i believe THIS is what that cap is supposed to look like ;x :

also, a note on removing the tranny: When i finally went to drop it (with hand tools, and my only helper being evan williams, and only one floor jack,) I tried using the jack to lower it. When i started to bring it out and down, i got pissed off and realized the jack was only getting in the way and causing difficulties, so i put my elbow on the ground, and wedged that same hand under the tranny.....and just knocked the damn jack out from under it, and out of my way.

I then proceeded to do my best at slowly lowering 73 lbs with one hand. It didn't go too bad, except when i got it down, my hand was kind of pinned so i had to lift it with the other hand to remove my hand ;x

Now, when i go to re-install it, i will surely need the jack, or a human, non-alcoholic helper.

EDIT: these pics were after i had already started cleaning. My bellhousing was just as dirty as yours, only there was no liquid residue, only dry organic clutch pad dust caked on about 1/8" thick all around.

I believe those are bearings from the mainshaft rear bearing (minus the race.)

From FSM

From Courtesy

For what it's worth, I think that bearing is part 32203M.

Too bad the housing is busted.

I think some of the bearings are INSIDE the transmission (gear box) Basically Im gonna HAVE to get a whole diff tranny. Rebuilt or used. Theres a pull-a-part JY locally, that I know I could take that tranny out quicker than it took me on my car. Low Mileage on it too Its REALLY hard finding these trannies... (VE5 VLSD) noone has any heh.

and what is the name of the 32264?

I was expecting the worst... that way if it wasnt I'd be much happier. But... I wasnt let down since I was expecting it

looks like one from the bellhousing to the back of the block. but it also looks like one from the rear mount bracket.

That additude will get you no where in here dude..we don't owe you anything, your thread is no more or less important than the others..

I was going to get you a pic of mine this morning, but it has been raining with wind,so my carport is all wet,I'm not laying in the rain to get a picture..

So either be patient for one of us to get the picture,or figure it out for yourself.

+1 Post count...

[RANT]

Im not hating... Im just saying you'all are talking about crap thats ALMOST off topic to 3rd gens... yeah the threads and the first couple of posts are related but after a while... its nothing but BS talk and +1 Post count. I just dont get these double standards going on here.
My patients was low, my hopes of getting my car back on the road is high, and people just mouse over me like Im just another idiot. Yeah maybe I do ask some stupid questions, everyone has their moments.

You either have to ask something unbelievably stupid, or stumble upon an incredible breakthrough.

It just got to me today.

What double standard? The only double standard going on in here is you thinking that we are some how obligated to crawl under our cars to take pictures for you because you cant figure out how to put your car back together.. Maybe you should have taken a few pics before you took it all apart.

btw, thanks to your ranting fits, this thread is really starting to go off topic now, should i lock it up?
