The back side of this panel is opaque and MAXIMA is painted on. When removing lettering you will have to reposition the centers of the A's also. My conceptual solution - transparent caulk. Grind the letters flat off, save the centers of the A's, and then caulk the holes left by the lettering You can then put LEDs behind each letter separately and wire them up as you wish.

red/white can be done with some RGB LEDs. Wire the RED to IGN, wire the blue to LH reverse light, and wire the green to RH reverse light. Voila. Problem is the outer shell is red so you will have to cut a section and replace with a cut section of the shell of a VG-SE panel.

long story short, i've already thought about all this and know the proper solutions. I just haven't started messing with mine. yet. I want a spare of each 1st series panel (red gxe and black se) to play with. Eventually i'll find something that is of the word-ness. Yes. I just said word-ness. You may now kill me.

Thanks for experimenting with it and posting it up for us. Sure, it's Pontiac Sunfire-ish, but it's good to see how it might look firsthand on the ole 4DSC. Personally it's not a feature that I find attractive, but I'm sure a lot of us have wondered "if"... and you sir are a pioneer for doing it!

uh, much?

actually i'll be installing that one i'm buying, and chopping up my current (falling apart) black one as well as my original red GXE one. I have decently enough money now so i will get up with you on that.

hey, john...
the stuff i think yer talkin 'bout...
are Electroluminescent
strips them?
its not a fabric. but it is a flexible plastic pannel(kinda...)
not sure if they come in red, if thats what you want, or if they'd be bright enough for you...

i've seen this in person.
how he had it set up you don't see the led strip and the logo lights up pretty well...not to bright and not to dim.

i suggested to use a resistor within the park light signal.
have a different wire that way when he steps on the brake it lights up brighter.

i know the lincoln mark 8 and continintal, caddilac catera and i know a couple more can't remember, has em'

umm can someone explain why this won't work on 92-94 maxima's

on the 2nd series 3rd gens it's not quite as open on the inside of the panel, i don't suppose. Not to mention your lettering is on the white part. Take your panel off and take a pic of the back side of it.

free fix for me. better way to do this thing with the letter holes:

bake the finisher and open it. then coat the backside where the letters recess inward with a generous amount of CLEAR RTV. then grind the lettering down until it all comes in contact with the RTV. Now all your letters are cleared, and you don't have to hand-position the letter centers.

yea i noticed that earlier.
it looks like maxima has the sticker letters.
then there's like a white or clear back piece...and if there's enough of a gap, us 2nd series guys could put a led strip on there at the bottom!

if you want to try it, i'm sure a lot of guys would like to see. I dont know much about the actual dimensions of the sections on a 2nd series centerpiece so it's not for me to say if it'll work for you guys or not tho..

you guys are making me want to take my extra tailpiece apart and show you how it's done. i've investigated the piece itself, and know how it should be done to look right, but i've not liked the idea for my car at all, so i haven't

capedcadaver.....better hurry up and take this thing from me, or it will end up lighted, and price doubled

PM me with your paypal email again plz... but it works best on the GXE panels since it's seethru to the back. that black one you're sending me has black close to the lens, and the letters don't show, because the letters are a sticker (that i'm replacing anyhow... dontchya wanna know with that... hmmm.. hell i'll give you a hint -----V)

but i will, however, continue to screw around with the other two, becuase for all I know i might have another 3rd gen later on, or know someone with one, and i will use a lit panel on that one.

also another idea is stenciling it on the back side of the plastic and then cutting that part out without cutting the clear outter coating and putting a light behind that or getting ahold of a thin peice of plexiglass and cutting it alil bigger then the lettering you cut out and putting two lights on it behind the peice one above and the other below to fully illuminate the plexiglass like they do with car audio set ups where they take plexicglass and illuminate it while the light isnt visible.

I kind of agree. It's a cool idea, but I couldn't see someone implementing it to their vehicle without it looking kind of tacky.

To be honest, my son and I had thought about doing something like this to a center section off of a 90. As you know, it has the sticker that says Maxima instead of being molded in to the center section. Anyway, I think you could take some paint or something equivalant, mask off the maxima from the inside, paint it and then possibly light it and it would look cool. Maybe some corner lights or something. At least they wouldn't be as harsh as leds. But to answer your question, no I do not want to take over.

ok seriously if yall ain't gonna get off yer dang ***** and do it i'll do it! i've pretty much got it figured out how it'd work, and only thing i need to make it work is a few center pieces to get it done (i say a few cause the first one might screw up, and the second i might throw and break due to my lack of patience lol)
