Engine Problem or Tranny?

Hello! First let me describe problems I know I have for sure, I have a bad engine in my VG, it has an oil leak, one of the cilinders don't have compression, and engine supports are broken. So I've been delaying the engine swap for a while because... you know...$$$.

Ok, so now I'm concerned my tranny is gonna be dead soon, In a cold morning after starting the car I can't accelerate normally, I depress the gas pedal and I got the engine reving but car doesn't move but with the idle speed, after 2 seconds of reving the car it makes a hard move (like hard shift, but can't tell for sure, doesn't sound like it) forward and then accelerate normal, if I stop in red light it does the same thing, when car warms up this problem dissapears.

This never happened before, Do this has something to do with my engine problems? or this is for sure Transmission related? I did a Tranny flush about a year ago, car has 140k, I don't know if that info helps, but I just wanna let you know. Any help will be highly appreciate it, Thanks!

Well, sounds like your transmission is definitely on it's way out...

In my honest opinion, with all the issues you have described,i recommend you cut your loses and sell this car..

first check your trans fluid level when the trans is warm, if it's good then sell the car.

I checked the fluid Monday, both cold and wam, seems to be ok, well honestly it always seems to be over the normal mark level, by an inch or so.

I have such a special feelings for this car, It was my first car, It really hurts me having to get rid of it, I was trying to get a deal on a totaled Maxima with a good engine and now with a good tranny too.
I love my Maxima

Transmissions will have problems when they are over full. Drain it to the correct level and it should be much better.

I actually never done myself any tranny flush, last time I did it on a shop, honestly my mechanic knowledge is very basic (actually less than basic). I've been told is not as easy as an oil change, but I ignore how to do the drain of ATF correctly, could you point me in the right direction about that, Thx!

draning the tranny is actually just as simple as an oil change....just stick a 1/2 drive right into the plug on the bottom of your tranny, take it out...let it drain, put it back....look up the right amount of tranny fluid, and fill it up. sounds like an oil change to me.

Actually,a simple drain/refill doesn't correspond to the service manual dry fill numbers. The torque converter will not drain out,a simple drain/refill would be around 5-6 quarts.

Anyhoo, here are the dry fill numbers for each transmission..

My wife's VG auto tranny is doing something similar. The vehicle won't move off until she revs it a bit, then it engages hard, and takes off. Very tricky trying to negotiate traffic jams because it drops out of drive at walking speed.
A complete strip of the tranny was done, everything was tightened up (there was lots of play in it) and the valvebody was changed. Now the tranny behaves perfectly, driving it the changes are like silk, except that the slow/stop problem is still there.
Now, I don't know much about the tranny internals, I am really a motor guy... now if anyone out there can answer this I will be grateful:
Is there an oil pump in the tranny (I do NOT mean the turbine!) - it seems to me that if there IS an oil pump, and it's responsible for control pressure, then the most probable cause is that the said oil pump is weak and needs replacing.
Apart from the slow/stop engage problem, the tranny is in perfect order and the original friction materials in excellent shape.
