My reverse lights didn't work and it ended up being a celenoid in the transmission. Never a problem with cruise.

Don't get my hands dirty.
Have a good mechanic.
Try to find a good independant mechanic rather than the a dealer.

Before you spend money at the dealer or at a shop, pop the hood an make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks. Those are the obvious things that would make the cruise control not work. The cruise control modulator is under the hood on the passenger side between the coolant resovoir and strut tower.

There should be a cable going from there to the throttle body. The cable should end up next to another cable, which is the cable that comes from the accelerator cable you step on. Check the slack in the cable for the cruise control and make sure the cable isn't loose or broken. A loose cable will cause a delay for the cruise to come on as well as cause big speed variations, some might be big enough for the cruise not to set.

After the cruise has been turned on, and your press SET, does the cruise light up in the dash to confirm that cruise has tried to activate?

's funny, but I've had a problem with MY cruise, too. The green light in the dash comes on, but it just blinks and blinks. I didn't hear any vacuum leaks, so I'm ASSuming that the problem is mechanical. Anyone have any thoughs on that??

my cruise control worked fine all summer, and the other day i tried using it it didn't work. that tick me off cause i don't know what it is. there is nothing else wrong, it has to be something like a bad connection cause i have no vacuum leaks. my problem sounds much like nubiannupe's.

for the reverse light problem, there's a sensor on the very bottom of the tranny that probably needs replacing.

it's on the left side.. looks like a black plastic plug in the bottom of the tranny with some wires sticking out..
replacement isn't dificult, but you'll need to drain and refill your tranny fluid also.

if you've got a service manual, I'm sure there's a way to test that sensor before you pull it out of the tranny..

look through this directory.. there may be a pic of it on my tranny somewhere.

that's funny, I was searching for something today and came across that post

I just said that it could be your cruise control actuator (the thing under the hood that actually pulls the throttle plate open)
I'm 99% sure that's the problem with my car because I've tested everything else with my FSM and they seem ok.
It's pretty expensive ($250 maybe, I can't remember) from the dealer new so your best bet may be a junkyard. Dont ask Matt93SE for the one from his parts car either because I already called it
