Crunching sound when slowing down with transmission

This is really weird.
I just got my clutch replaced and it works perfectly.
The weird thing is, though, that if I'm in first gear and I go up to 3000 or 4000 rpm and then let off kind of quickly without pushing the clutch in, then the car slows down quickly of course but makes this crunching sound, like squeaky shocks make when they groan when going over a speed bump. But if I punch the brakes, there's no crunching/groaning, so I don't think its the shocks. Any ideas?

it's just really weird that it's only when slowing down with the transmission and not when braking, I can't think of anythig it would be.

i agree with internetautomar.
check your engine/tranny mounts.
itll cause the engine/tranny to twist. the force is pulling the top towards the front of the car.

might check that the axles(esp. drvr side)are fully "popped or seated in the trans"there is a little gap but try tugging out the driver side to see if it moves more than a little
(or it could be because you just got your clutch replaced,
where'd you go?how much?what clutch?)

I had this same problem. This is going to cost you if you dont take care of it now. Change the Input Shaft Bearing.

Soon your car is going to pop itself out of gear.
Make weird noises as you stated.
Possibly blow up your transmission... like mine did. The ISB will explode shooting bearings around EVERYTHING causing the gears to chew the car from the inside out.

You drive it pretty hard dont you . I did... and I had no idea what was going on. Thought it was the clutch the whole time.
My story:

Your wrong.

A bad isb won't always make the shaft wiggle.

Yes, but what I'm saying is. The shaft might not have play, but still have a bad bearing.

Need I rephrase?

um, wow, i hope this isn't my problem. Well it wasn't doing it before I got the clutch replaced. I got it done at a really good shop, all certified and around for like 50 years and everyone recommends them (same owner for the past 30 years). Should I just take it back to them and see what they think? I have a year 12,000 mile warranty on it that is still valid. I need to check out the motor mount idea, maybe its the rubber peices rubbing against each other, that would make sense, right? I'll check it out.
