Not having this belt (see thread)

So, I was looking under the hood trying to possibly get my head around this engine and see what else could be wrong with it and I notice 2 pulleys with no belt. I'm like wholey ****, I've been driving this thing and there isn't 1 of the belts on it? I'm curious (other then the alternator) what is this belt connected to, and since the alternator is unconnected that means the battery is draining slowly since there is no charging going to it?

mau. its winter so you dont need a/c. leave it off until you need A/C unless you can live without it where you live. frees up a couple of ponies, i hear.

My guess is the belt was taken off by the original owner for a reason, i.e. the ac compressor is most likely locked up.

well, in my case, the thing isn't locked up, but i have been having issues with the bearings. my car accelerates SO much more quietly now that my belt is in my bedroom and not on my car anymore. but we have had a warm spell this week so it's been like 75 outside so i would have liked the AC for a day or two. the tensioner pulley bearing is shot and possibly one or more of the compressor's bearings

the A/C system runs in the winter when you use the defroster.

yeah that's the only downside i've seen but the air blowing past the windshield still defrosts it, just not as quickly. same if a car (econobox or something) didn't have a/c to begin with.
