Stalling Problem in 90

When I'm driving my car will just stall, almost like there is a fuel cutoff. I replaced the fuel filter. It usually starts right back up. I just have to give some gas to keep it running. This just started happening yesterday. I was hoping it would go away overnight but it didn't. I don't mind working on my car but I hate when I don't know what the problem is. Anyone else have any problem like this? It is a scary situation when you're on the parkway and all of a sudden you have no steering or brakes.

Thanks,
Chris

when was the last time you had a tune up? plugs, distributor, wires idle adjusted, and had the timing reset?

i have a 90 gxe as well, and at about 85k or so it had the same prob, stalled alot at lights, especially if i left it in drive. started fine, but would sometimes start to idle ragged and then die if i didnt give it a little gas. found out it was the egr valve, its a device that recirculates your exhaust gas into your engine at certain times, when it breaks it fouls up your idle. its a boxy thing to the right of your intake, far right/front/top of your engine, with some small hoses connected to it. basically i couldnt repair it so i had to get a new one, unfortuneately it costed $$$, but after it was put on, it idles beautifully, no probs whatsoever. since my car did exactly as you describe, i would guess its your egr. hope that helps.

actually i should also mention it could be your maf sensor. sounds weird but my max (at about 65k) also stalled when driving above about 2k rpm. your maf sensor is right behind your air filter. i got a good one off of a junked max, was pretty cheap and fixed the prob. hope that helps

I just did a tuneup about 3k ago. I replaced the cap and rotor again tonight and it seemed to fix everything. 30 minutes later the same thing happened. The rotor with 3k on it looked a little charred up. I am now gonna check the EGR. It's worth a shot.
