ve vq swap out
#45
well as soon as i get an adequate workspace to do the sort of work necessary to do all the fabrication, it shouldn't take too terribly long. I just got to make for darn sure i get it right on paper and do a few small-scale tests prior to actually chopping and drilling.

Nice mmg Does it run?
I glad someone finally done this swap.
Just curious, what was the biggest obstacle of the swap/ wiring? axles? crossmember relocation?
Oh, btw..be prepared for 11ndy billion pm's

I was looking at prices for 3.5Ls in local junk yards and see they run from $500 up to about $2500. So prices are not prohibitive.

Rather then PMs this should be documented in detail, pics, drawings, step by step directions, wiring schematics and parts lists! Get it all together and then STICKIED to the TOP of the Gen3 Forums!!!!

yea plan to do that, I have another swap to finish so this time i will be taking pics and recording through the process. the first engine i got for $199 it was out of a 2004 fire car. the Second one I paid $400 for it. the swap is really not that hard if you have mechanical experience and patience. I had two 4th gen maxima parts car that i stripped.

It would be nice to have this swap documented/written up, then maybe we can keep the 3rd gen body design alive and kicking for many years to come.

Well lets hope mmg23 will give some details about the swap, though if he doesn't want to, then thats fine also, it's his bidness.

I guess he couldn't take the heat?
If I do something weird like that I'll at least be willing to answer questions, take pics, etc.
And I won't tell anyone what I'm doing until I'm done b/c it's happened, oh, how many times on here? Yeah this guy actually did it but... there's too much curiosity for him to disappear. That's kinda like leaving the club just when the show gets interesting..

If I would ever do anything new and exclusive, I would share for the simple fact that I would be giving back to the forum for all the help and knowledge they gave me.

Yeah, but I think some don't really care about sharing these things. They want their findings to themselves, that way they can be more unique with their swap.

Looks like a VG30DE. I know Matt93SE test fitted a VG30DE in a third gen, and it was a no go. So hopefully this guy who stuck the VQ35 isn't full of crap. I have heard of VQ30 swaps, nothing definite, but have heard it is possible.

i've seen pics of a VQ30 (DEK?) swap but it was shop-done. And another that was done by an owner but I have NO clue where. A mod may remember where to find that.

You know good and well this swap is legit. Most people on this forum are supportive of this thread, including myself. So I hope he is able to post a few basics on what obstacles he ran into so others can learn from it.
I have been thinking about this swap for quite some time now. The more I can learn from others, the better! I hope he feels welcome on this forum and is willing to help other members out.

always remember: men once said it was impossible for us to fly.... and it took some bikers to prove them wrong!

qfmft. I remember a guy a while back asking what engines would "fit" into the bay, and it turned into a flame fest. hope that guy comes back and says "HA!!! NOW WHAT, BEY-OCHEZZZ?!?!?!".. prolly wont happen, but hey, y'know?

I have no problem with people talking about swaps that are within reason, and i'm loving this 3.5L action going on, but honestly that other guy deserved every single ember that came his way.
