Sounds like my max is missing but....
Hey all. Here is my problem, my maxima starts up fine but when i take off it sounds like it is missing and i dont have good acceleration. I have a 5-speed tranny so i dont think it is the inhibitor switch or what ever the auto trannys have wrong with them, I pulled all of my plugs and they all look good. I dont know what the problem is but i need some advise quickly because that is my only means of transportation and i cant really afford to tear anything up on it.

It kind of chugs when you accelerate. sounds liek its missing or not fireing on all 6 cylinders. usually it does this when i first start the car up and it eventually goes away when i start driving but today it lasted the whole ride. yesterday it started doing this when i first started driving but then it felt like something sliped into place and it went from missing to driving normal...ill try and post a video or sound clip on here tomorrow while im driving.

Sounds like TPS Sensor. Try and unplug it, when the car is actually running rough. If it smooths out, then accelerates normally, you have found the problem. It is about an $80 fix up here in Canada for the part. Approx 40 min to install.
Good Luck!

pull spark plug wires one at a time and see which one does NOT cause the miss to get worse. when you find the one plug whose removal doesn't make the miss worse, you've found which cylinder is making your car unhpappy.

If u have a Crap cap, birds carrying the spark to pluggies?
Giv em at least a chance http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/12

ok guys thx for ur suggestions i have since replaced all my plugs and gas filter. My car is still having this same problem but 1 thing that i have found out is the plug to my o2 senser while the car is running i slowly pull it out untill it starts to bogg down the i plug it back in and it will clear it up like 8 times out of 10.

i'm guessing 02sensor
Do you get any trouble warning from the dash? I found my car bogging from time to time on acceleration and its narrowed to my 02sensor......looking for a good wide-band to replace it with but don't know if the stock ecu will handle it until i get my megasquirt in.

is the problem with stock ecu's handling of the narrow band most noticeable in any particular part of the throttle/rpm plane? or it is equally bad all across?

speaking of injectors... brian said that running a bad injector will cause damage to your rings... if an injector is totally failed, what's really the longest anyone should drive on it before the rings really start to lose their ability to keep your compression in-spec?
well.. on a VG at least you can't rly unplug them one at a time. i dunno about a VE, but on a VG you have to do it by unplugging spark plugs one at a time. unfortunately (and fortunately too) my miss isn't solid enough for me to tell if it 'didn't get worse' because my miss is very slight.

or at the very least he can ohm test them and see if any are out of spec... I can't rly do that on my engine but i have another engine that i think i'll keep instead and sell my original engine. but ohm testing is a good way to determine if the injectors work right. but also other things, like leaky o-rings and such can cause an injector-based problem that won't show up on a multimeter
