Walkin' in the JY just earlier to-day, ba-by, What'd ya, what'd ya think I saw?

Crowds of people pullin' parts off cars with tools in their hands said "CapedCadaver found what he's been looking for"
I really don't know what time it was,
so I asked them if I could stay awhile.

So here's what I came home with today:
low beam -> high beam -> front view ->

one more pic... not taken in the dark

light is provided by my trusty 9LED flashlight...
you guys probably know by now i HATE blue headlights (as much as most of you hate chrome ) so this is not how the lights will look once installed on my car. They'll be much warmer, similar to my avatar pic.

From the Infiniti J30? How do you plan to modify them for the maxima?

yes, and I have no clue yet. I'll have to crack them open and take a peek. then i'll figure out what to do with them from there. I'm thinking one possibility is to get some 3rd gen Euros, chop up the back of the housing, and set the projectors in there. I'm going to see how these fit in the parts car tomorrow just for S&G but the high beam is gonna stick out WAY too far, i already know...

see how much further the inner one sticks out than the outer one?

Ahah ok. I would have gotten it if it were: "Harmlessly passing some time in the junkyard away - only dimly aware of the smell of gasoline in the air"

so for those who have done custom headlight mods, or those who just might know anyways (greeny... goon...) about how much of the material circled in red can be either cut away or pounded backward into submission without damaging the integrity of the front end (both for stiffness/handling and safety):

looking at the test fit, i think it'd be pretty cool if you could made shrouds to go around the lights to fit the current location, kinda like the eyebrows you see on some cars, but not as gaudy. (of course, making the shape accept the rest of the front, ie the side markers, bumper, could make it too much work.

Everything inside the red is ok to cut out. But take out as little as you can to easily make a bracket.

Could always.... Cut it all off and redo it

i can tell you ahead of time... corners won't line up quite right, the grille-end of the lights will stick out a bit farther than the stockers do and you'll need something to fill the space above where the top of the grille normally meets the stock lights. i'm going to retro the projector unit into maxima euro lights. i have spare stockers to test with before hacking up a good set of euro lights. i'm thinking the best way will be to load the projectors in from the front and keep cutting and grinding until there's enough room, then fuse the plastics together once it's in far enough

not a whole lot of major stuff that i'm aware of... it's a RWD VG30DE versus our FWD VG30E... but maybe minor things might work like MAFs and such. don't quote me on it b/c i don't know anything for sure.

I would measure the enitre depth of those J30 headlight assy's and graft the rear section to the front lense section of a Maxima. I would experiment by cutting the J30 parallel to the glueline but about 1/2" to 1" back and doing the same parallel cut on the Maxima to achieve roughly the same amount of depth (measured from the front of the lense to the rear of it's housing) as the Oem J30. You can then trim the J30 rear housings to fit the Maixma' front lense Good luck & great find!

the problem with that is how many points along that plane where there would be huge gaps. thward the inner edge, the J30 housing slopes and tapers, whereas the maxima keeps the same height the whole way across

don't worry... i'll do this right. even if i have to buy a few more maxima housings from the JY or other org members.

i am aware of the engine/drive components, i meant like interior components. because there are at least 3 j30's at a nearby junkyard, and why not throw a lil extra in my max??

leather seats anyone???

well if the shoe fits then def wear it. i'm doing an interior swap aftter i am done with the mechanical work on my car. which will be probably a long time from now. no reason to grease up a nice interior when i can just grease up my nasty red interior and put a nice one in once i'm done. so when you do the headlights are you going to use regular halogens or are you going to get some HIDs in there? I'm going to use halogens at first, HIDs later on.
