Hey Guys,

Bought a 92 GXE for my girl off a member on here and it seems like it needs about $1000 - $1300 to pass inspection. This is a lot to me for a 16 year old car. I wanna get the cheapest price possible so I was hoping to get all the parts myself and just pay for labor.

Here's the list of things I need and the price they gave me with their parts.

Fuel Injector - $250
Front Brakes and rotors - $200
Cat Converter - $250
1 Ball joint - $110
2 Lower control arm bushings - $120
Sway Bar End Links - $80
Total - Little over a $1000

Here's the prices for just parts I found on here and Ebay

Fuel Injector - $40
Front Brakes and rotors - $80
Cat Converter - $67
1 Ball Joint - $20
2 Lower Control arm bushings - $30
Sway bar end links - $40
Total - Little over $300

How much should labor be for all this stuff installed in one shot. I'm thinking about $500 or less right? I might be totally off. What do you guys think I should do.

Thanks for the help guys!

I would buy all the parts and put them in myself and then take the car in to be aligned. But about 300-500 for install is my bet.

check http://internetautosupply.com/catalog/
for example:
http://www.internetautosupply.com/ca...c13a793eb5548e
control arm with ball joint :$57.75(ea.)
sway bar links:$21.50 (ea.)
new injector:105.00 (no need to worry about issues with used/reman injectors in a month)

advice:
get the control arms assembled, because its a ***** to get everything organized to swap out just the bushings. (saves time, and time is money regardless of paying somebody else to do it, or diy.)

brian has told me yes, both front and back bushings per control arm and ball joint.

(*brian is internetautomar (on maxima.org), owner of that site)

I would think about replacing all the injectors @ once so you don't have to do it again!

Also I got a complete suspension replacement from here and everything is top quality

the price looks good, but browsing his store, i see cheap or no-name brands. I know that brian strives to supply quality parts, where ebay sellers don't always care about quality, but quantity is everything. if they sell crap for cheap(not always, but if it looks too good...) then they get more people to buy crap. that's what makes the stores seem legit.
(do not get me wrong. I work for a guy who runs an ebay store. I do not work with the ebay stuff, generally, but I see some of the shady **** other sellers pull on a daily basis)

on a 92 GXE I would do all the injectors at one shot. they are all under the plenum which means that if you do only 1 at a time you will be doing a lot of extra labor plus replacing gaskets multiple times.
IF you are paying someone to do the injectors then 100% you should do all 6 at one shot, as the labor difference between 1 and 6 is about 30 minutes.

my control arms do come with the bushings already installed correctly (there are brands out there that have the bushing set about 90 degrees off from either side) as well as new ball joints.
I sell my injectors with ALL the o'rings and insulators included. no need to worry about reusing old ones. I actually include that stuff in the price even though they are all sold seperately. who wants to forget an insulator? not me. there are enough headaches when doing this job, no need to add extra ones.

If you want a package deal, just PM me and we'll work out something. I can probably match prices on everything (with the exception of $40 for a soon to fail injector).

oh and don't forget to add shipping on to the cost of anything you buy on egay when doing your calculations.

I PM'd you back. I know I came out higher, but the explanation is in the PM.
If you only want to get certain items and not others we can work out a different package

Ok so how much should I haggle on the price with the shop to do the following install?

Replace fuel injector
Both control arms replaced along with the sway bar links
Install front brake pads and rotors
Mount and balance 1 tire

Thanks,
Alex

depending on the shops labor rate, it should come out in the $300 range.

now brian... in relation to these parts that he's getting.. is there any way you can package control arms with the ES poly bushings instead or would it be too big of a pain/expense to get them in, have the bushings cut to fit, installed, etc?

the problem is it would add a considerable cost to the arm once labor is figured it.
not too mention I would have to spend the time doing it, which reduces the time I have to improve site/catalog and catch mistakes.
