How do I Replace The Battery Cables

Can someone explain to my the signal path on the VG30E? The original cables look rotten and I want to replace. The cables look someone confusing, like some splice, and even a separate lead from the negative I think, going to the fuselink? Also, what is the style connector that goes to the terminal on the starter, and what about the ground connector?

I want to try and make the cables myself from scratch, so I can use high quality connectors on the battery end, and pay way less. I also notice some strange square looking plastic connectors and have no clue what type these are to replace.

Not sure what you mean by "looks rotten." Plastics will tend to discolor and melt under years of heat, that does not mean the wires are bad. Don't mess with the fusable link!

The best thing to do is take a day, pull the wires and run down to AutoZone or Walmart and pick up the ends you need. I don't beleive you will be able to do it cheaply though, nor would I think you would want to! Pay close attention to the wire you use as well, I don't recommend using stereo wire. There is a reason that battery cables use the thicker stranded metal wire and have thicker plastic coatings!

Check out these writeups:

The ground thick cable can be made of two separate cables, bolted on chassis under batt tray.

The rot ten plastics: one is for charge supply from alt containing a fusible link which is designed to melt in case a sever short, try to salvage that feature.

I know these oldies already look like a meltdown... and some need total replacement. Use tape and self vulcanizing rubbertape and/or shrink tube. And of course contact grease.
