Insurance USUALLY covers windshields at least once, for most any type of coverage.
So ive heard?
And if not, it's really not that expensive to have professionals do it, and they can do it in like a half hour.
Call your insurance

Even if you don't want to use your insurance (or have a high deductible), it is only like $250 for a windshield..installed

Good call. I'm beginning to have second thoughts on spending much more on this. I love the design of the 3rd Gen, but i've been inspecting earlier today and the rust I think is much worse than I thought. I'm reluctant though because I've spent a couple thousand in the past 2 yrs on maintenance and repairs...I want to get use of it you know what I mean.

For some reason, the carpet on the floors around the doors at the bottom, the bucket area to the floor feels damp on both sides of the car and in the back too. I'm wondering if rust has already started to penetrate the floor.

It's been raining for 2 days, but why on earth would that floor carpet be damp if no water has gotten in from me, and I'm the only one using it.

there are a few ways. if you have a sunroof, it can leak there. door/window/trunk seals. if they aren't good, they can allow water to enter.
but it could be rust.

Umm, jack it up and look under it for rust?
if your carpets wet, that can never be a good thing.. its gonna smell, and start to rust if its not rusting on the floorboards yet.

My parts car sat for 5+ months thru winter and spring without two windows and the sunroof half shut and when i gutted the inside the floor had about 1/2 maybe more of water everwhere(trunk about 2 inches in the spare wheel thing) but no visible rust anywhere inside the car no under, odd. Looked like there was some drain plugs on the floor too? If you concerned about the rust perhaps drain and dry the whole inside (carpet and all out) then spray it with a thin layer of oil or wd-40. I learned from wiking that oil is 'living' and can and will protect metal from rust.
Anywho if your windshield isnt to badly cracked forget about it, unless u have those state inspection, which I my state we dont.

I just recently started doing the one man windshield installs. In my old shop, they would use the metal wire with handles, which needed a guy on the outside and one on the inside. Now I've been introduced to this cool new tool that lets you handle the whole job yourself. It's nice to have someone help you lay it down on the glue though. I doubt you'll tackle this without some special tools, and at least a very good write-up.

My car did sit for one yr through a winter too. I was suprised it didn't seize as I didn't start it for 6 months or so. The carpet is totally dry now, and I have no sun-roof - but i'm going to look underneath soon, since I want to replace the whole exhaust system.

I've decided I'm going to keep the car, since I'm buying a new starter tommorow.

The guy quoted me $165.00 for the windshield with install, is this a rip?

I'm concerned though about putting in a new windshield as there's a small spot of rust (I should take photos for you guys) that I was working on and removing with a tool, and the rust created the 2nd crack.

We have no inspections here in Ontario, but if I wanted to sell the car it would have to get a safety pass from a Garage.

it may be a little high, so shop around. who knows? you could find somebody for under 100(doubtful, but it could happen that way). but I dont think 165 is a ripoff
