painting interior--help please

hey guys. i am going to start painting the interior of my max blue. I was wondering how i go about painting the little rectangular things around the door lock. Do i have to take off that whole piece or what. Also, is there any specific order on taking off the pieces to paint or just whatever? Thanks.

one more question

If i'm going to paint just the little rectangular pieces around my door lock, do i still need primer and a can of paint or what? Also, what kind of paint works best for this. Thanks again. I tried a search but only found pictures.

okay no prob

well
1st: wipe all the pieces with paint thinner
this will dry them out and remove any black magic or any other dressing that you have put on.
2nd: dry the pieces with a compressor (blow them dry) or use a blow dryer (low heat setting)
3rd: prime every piece with 2-3 light coats. let it dries about 60-90 seconds between each coat.
4th: with what ever color you have selected lightly dust each piece.
let each coat dry for about 60-90 seconds and apply another light coat
repeat until the entire piece is one shade of the color. mabey 20-30 light coats.
5: let it dry for an hour. you can use a hair dryer on the middle setting to help it along.
6: with some clear paint apply a thin coats of clear on the pieces
just follow the same steps as the color, and continue untill you get a
glossy finish.
7:let all the pieces dry for a few hours. Even they might seem dry it sucks having to take a vent out after you just put every thing back in because the paint got messed up.

I have pics of some of the dashes I have done at my shop on my web site Xtreme Reddy Race Custom Designs . there are also some pics of my dash in my webshots albulm

oh yeah

Use any paint you want just as long as its half decent.
Depending on the color I use mostly ACE paint unless im doing it the same color as the body of the car then I'll get some paint mixed up with that code.

and paint all the pieces at once.

see website for pics. the center vents and ones around the guages....take off the piece around the shifter. then the lowerest part beneath the wheel, followed by the plastic around the column. next the piece with the cruise control and defroster buttons, then take out the....mmm don't remember the order from here, but the top large piece comes out that surrounds the guages, as well as the piece surround the radio and climate controls. easy enough. the vents by the windsheild...mmm i think there was two screws and a little plastice clip in the middle. the right most vent by the glove box was the hardest by far. while you have everything apart. take out the glove box and the lower right corner of the dash that holds it in. then remove the bolts that hold on the main vinyl covered dash piece. you just want to loosen up the passenger side. now you have to crawl underneath and use a stubby screw driver. use it to take out the screws that hold the vent to the dash, there are three and they're hard to get off with such little space. but once it comes off, the trim just seperates easily.

also you should do the trim around the cruise controls. i did it as well, ads a nice touch. no pics of it yet though. good luck
