Best place to purchase timing belt/water pump kit?

Looking to replace my timing belt, water pum, and tensioner. Where is the best place to buy? And which belt do i need? Std or square tooth? Or do I need to wait until the old belt is out?

Car is a '92 GXE with the VG30E motor.

Thanks.

you're gonna have to look and see which you have. I thought i had one, and ended up getting the other by mistake.... couldn't return the first belt so i'm stuck with a brand new square belt that I can't use. i had heard only 94s were square... BUT... you never know what motor your car has. my car does not have the original motor and i'm about to swap it again with my spare motor (which will get all the speshul stuff, including a good set of injectors, etc)

You can buy a kit from Courtesy Nissan with everything you will need plus more:

http://www.courtesyparts.com/J30_timing.html

If money is a factor find a way to aquire the Nissan part numbers that you need and then order the parts from nissanparts.cc. This is the most cost effective route but it is also the slowest to arrive.

You can also get the parts from your local dealer. This will be faster but more expensive.

Only buy nissan parts, don't be an idiot or it will cost you. Make sure at minimum you replace the timing belt and timing belt tensioner.

NISSAN ONLY. The parts you are working with are too important to get from copycat 3rd party sources. Besides, the price difference is nominal.

Trust me, you don't want to do this job twice. That and if it does fail your heads are hosed if not worse. Trust me. I am speaking from experience!

I was just going to say courtesy. Thats where I got mine from. Just make sure
you look and see which tooth pattern you have round square.

since you have a '92 and you say it's the original engine, you should have the square tooth. 94's and some 93's have the round tooth.

call up david burnette aka DaveB at south point nissan 1-888-254-6060. he'll hook you up. i saved about $60 on the water pump alone compared to my local dealer. he'll beat courtesy's prices, too. he's a great guy and knows his stuff.

If you read the attached service bulletin, it may help. If in doubt, remove the upper timing belt cover and take a look at the sprocket. I assume since you have a 1992, you have a square or trapezoidal belt and sprocket.

I believe you have the square belt as well. Sounds like you've got some good input on where to get prices. I go with Courtesy, but when in trouble, I have developed a good relationship with my local Nissan dealer who will at least match the Courtesy price if I bring in a print out of the web price with part number. Getting the tensionor AND spring is important. I emphasize the spring becuase this part is almost always overlooked and is the critical peice of the two that will be a problem if breaks!

The job itself is pretty simple. I was able to do it even without removing the upper radiator hose. But, if you're doing the water pump, I don't suppose it matters! I'd also replace the thermostat too if you've not done that anytime lately. Good luck.

... then my 90GXE has a motor out of a 93 or a 94... which makes sense considering i have the new-style of injectors (they swapped the WHOLE harness to do so though!!! the injector plugs are NOT spliced as far as i can tell.)

how big a deal is the tensioner ID color thing? or does it matter?

Well, to start, the plugs are different. Second, the 93/94 injectors sit down into the fuel rail as opposed to the earlier versions having a lip as part of the top plastic cap which sat on top the fuel rail when installed. Outside of that, the shape was a little different, I recall the O-rings being at different points....again, this was due to the design change. I'm not aware of other differences. Their flow rates and functional ohm range is all the same.
