easy...

1. remove engine mount.
2. cut out old rubber inside mount.
3. clean the leftover parts.
4. center the pin inside the mount where it should be (hint: dead center is NOT correct. check before you take it apart)
5. mask off one end of the mount with several layers of tape, so it's liquid-tight on the bottom end.
6. mix up urethane and fill the mount.
7. wait several days for it to cure- AT LEAST twice as long as the instructions say, even longer if it's cold... I didn't and I had to make another set because the first trial didn't cure enough before I put the weight of the engine back on them.

8. Peel off the tape.
9. reinstall in the engine.

as for places to get the urethane, most industrial supply places have it. (Grainger, McMaster-carr, other local places. check your phone book and call around) Look for a product called "Flexane" by Devcon. it comes in several hardnesses (called durometer. it's a standard used in the plastics industry) the softest (84) is what you should use.

there are several other brands out there, but that's the one I used and it worked well. just be SURE you mix it properly, otherwise it won't set up at all and you'll have a big gooey mess that can't be cleaned off ANYTHING.

Matt, how did the mounts work out for you in the long term and how much for the Flexane?

dunno.. the car witht he flexane mounts was totalled a year ago- before I could do a complete job on it. (ugh)

I'm waiting for it to warm up outside so I can do these in urethane. I've got a full set of engine and tranny mounts in the shed waiting for the job..

flexane is about $25/quart. 1 qt is enough to do all the mounts.

wut are any negative side effects for doing it yourself/.. or the quaility of the part.... I heard that we shouldnt do this b/c it will cause too much rattle at idel... Wut are the pros and cons in doing this.. And i guess this is beter than spending 300+ on new mounts.?

I want to be a guine pig.. or if some one can help me do it i'll pay yah a good jobs pay.. I

The loner i wait to fix the problem, what can happen to my max.. Right now its shift hard 1-2 2-3 and from idel from park to r to d or d to r or r to d there is a clunk tec sound...also does motor mounts impare performance.. Loss of power? Poor ride?

If you don't fix the motor/tranny mounts, under hard driving it could break an axle or crack the case because of too much movement. Here is the link http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaver...-r/mounts.html I did this to my 87 maxima. It made my idle smoother and the engine more responsive. I couldn't really feel anymore vibration since all my mounts were broken before hand.

I filled in the gaps on new stock mounts( 2 engine 2 trans) with 84 Durometer. Idles smoother than ever, better 1-2 and 2-3 shift when I'm, on it hard, less wheel hop when getting frisky, and alot less clutch chatter..srill some cause my flywheel isn't in the best shape. Still feel kinda soft fo rmy taste..going to gut and fill the old mounts with 90 Durometer this summer.
