I was riding around one night just looking for something to get into when all of a sudden a dude in a 97 Gle came hauling a$$ up behind me and pulled even with me. So I was happy that someone wanted to try me and plus I always wanted to see just how fast those slushboxes were. I finally got to a light with him and he was itching to get a whole of me. when the light turned green we were off, By the time I came out of 2nd I had him by a fender ( i was speed shifting like hell). I was kind of scared that he would pass me but as I went to third he was at my door. I rode 3rd all the way to 85, and 4th until the needle was buried, by the time I went to 5th I had him by 2 cars. We had to be doing 130. We raced for almost 2 miles non stop, he could not close the gap. I just turned on my blinkers and made a u turn. Now when I see him he just throws up the peace sign.


Mods: Intrax springs, stillen bodykit, 17 inch konig monsoons,UDP,NGK wires, Spiralmax air twister, JWT popcharger, advanced timing, and mesh grille. Y pipe is on the way!

 

90se 5spd v. 97GLE..........90SE kills 97GLE by 2+ cars.........hmmmmmmm.......

mabey it happened Ive beat a 95 se with my 92 se but Ive got a 5spd and it was an auto but mabey the gle driver sucked?

 

I might have believed it if he had the Y-pipe on...I honestly doubt the GLE was flooring it.
With my slushbox (I/Y/E) I can and auto 4th gen up to 50mph...then DOHC blows me away.
Oddly, I can edge an auto VE on the freeway.

 

Well if it makes you girls feel any better, I beat a VQ 5 spd by 0.5 at the track yesterday.
Even have a timeslip to back it up.

I'm not a traitor.. I loved my VG.. riding around in Justin's this weekend made me wish I had a 5 spd VG of my own.. (except for all the rattles and the uncomfortable crunchy leather seats)..... oh wait.. the leather's in my car now.....

Hey, cmon DaMax, you're not a true VG believer! There's a very good chance a 90se could take a 97 GLE out! For example, what if the 97's driver was having a seizure during the race? Perhaps he didn't know they were racing? The possibilities are endless!

 

Yup... that's how I beat a Camaro SS by 1.3 seconds on my second run...
VQ stick by 0.5 on my 1st run, Camaro SS by 1.3 on my second... not a bad weekend.

look at my list of mods.. CAI isn't my only power mod, but it's the main one..
100% factory original exhaust (even down to the rusting muffler!)

 

He probably wasnt flooring it or had a heavy load I doubt if he was seriously racing you!

 

 

What is that thing anyway?

 

First of all, I don't have to prove anything to anyone. I know what happened and the driver of the gle knows what happened. Why is it so hard to believe thatI outran a GLE. So what it has 190 horses. it also has a slushbox that got his a$$ whipped. If it was a 5 speed he would have beat me, but if it is an automatic I don't care nothing about those horses under the hood, if you don't believe if any of you are in the south carolina area, you can look me and we will line them up, and then we will just see because talking gets nothing accomplish, its on the street where all the talking is hushed.So make all your little smart a$$ remarks.

 

I believe it is possible that you beat a GLE. I will never doubt the power of a VG 5sp, I have owned 3. But I don't think it is a good idea to think you call beat all VQ autos. I have a 96SE now and I know with out a doubt the VQ slushbox is still quicker than a VG 5 sp. I really miss my 91SE and ironically I might be buying my car back from a co worker, he is getting an end of year bonus and he will be buying a new car. But I repeat the VG 5sp is not as quick as a VQ auto. However the da*n VE is totally different creature I am very confident with my CAI and Y pipe VS. a similiar modded VE 5sp like Matt's it would be close but I know I would loose. I was very impressed with a stock VE 5sp. When I added the CAI to my VG It made a huge difference to the throttle response, I can only imagine what it does to the VE.

 

I never said all VQ's even though I have ran 2 and beat both, as far as Vgs Iam only speaking for my car, not all of them. My car is far from being stock, the only thing Iam missing now is NOS, because my Y-pipe is on the way.

 

the only max i ever beat was another stock auto vg and by 1 and half cars length too (we only got up to 60 before we stopped)

 

so what mods do you have?? in your sig it says advanced timing and intake and having 17's doesn't help much....so whats the deal?? let me guess you forgot to mention the rest of you mods right....

 

 

I find it difficult to believe the GLE was trying. At the track, the very slowest VQs will run better than 16.5, and number a stock VG 5 speed has difficulty with. Out on the road, the VQ just has too much torque.. Besides the SpiralMax, what else dso you have in the way of power? Have you dynoed? Have you run at the track?

and another thing yes it is possible for a well maintained VG 5spd to beat a VQ auto......BUT you'd need a Y-pipe, CAI, UDP, MSD SCI, upgraded clutch, STS and a good as driver, my friend's VG 5spd with the above mods run 15.8-.7s so yes it is possible, but without a Y-pipe and some extras....NO CHANCE IN HELL especially on the highway! so yes I still call BS, take it for what its worth!

Niece Anne: its an ignition upgrade made by MSD. "Largo72" had those mods on his 92 VG 5spd Max before he recently sold it a month ago, great car, pretty fast too, some might remember it from the LSP meet over the summmer, it had the "whistling muffler"
