No, 3 gen never come with traction control. Air bag and ABS were options.

My Maxima doesn't have ABS but it has traction control....thanks to me having a brain and that little switch that says A/T.

I'm kinda glad I don't have ABS from what I've heard its just idiotproofing the brakes which may slow down your braking. I for one know the limits of my brakes.

i wouldn't rly call that power/comfort switch traction control... it won't stop you from spinning tires at takeoff. the setting you are in could conceivably help reduce tirespin once you are moving, by being in a gear less prone to spin the tires (i guess this would be comfort mode which would do that for having less mechanical advantage). but the threshold at which the power/comfort actually comes into play is at lower throttle positions than would REALLY make a difference in terms of having traction or not having traction. if it affected shift points even at WOT, then maybe. But past 3/4 throttle or 7/8 or something, power/comfort shift at the same speeds.

He was probably talking about a limited slip differential (lsd), right? Most(?) VE5s have them, mine does.

well if you are having too much fun in the snow it might go in to fail-safe mode which cuts down on the spinning

Some systems are just setup to look up parts and some criteria applies where other times it doesn't. Cases like this. I think in the Autozone system if you key in a 3rd gen Max it asks if it is a coupe or sedan.

think it was standard on a ve-5 but optional on the ve-a.

as for traction control i guess you can say:
you take off in the rain. the wheel spins. speedo reaches 35mph.tcu shifts to 4th gear.
