O2 Sensor Ended Up Dragging On Street

The O2 sensor fell off, and the exhaust leak sound is un-bearably loud now. I took it by for a mechanic to give me an estimate and he claims that the whole system from front pipe to end has to be replaced because of the rust.

Any truth to this? Is there some sort of quick fix I can do until I buy the parts myself? Can I just patch the hole somehow and insert the O2 sensor by some other means?

I notice the horsepower is greatly decreased and it seems its burning gas REALLY quickly. The sound is louder than any motorcycle I've ever heard. It's SCREAMING loud.

if there is so much rust that ur sensor fell off i guess one day ur muffler gonna fall off too....u better off changing your pipes....my dads toyota previa had so much rust that holding clips were broken and tail pipe along muffler fell off on the ground while he was driving ...so u better change ur pipes if there is alots of rust....his van was from ALBERTA and u live in Ontario..same thing....

ur car is running rich cuz ECU(computer of the car) is not getting signals from O2 sensor and ur computer is just guessing and throwing more fuel than normal thats why its burning gas really quickly...u wont say burning its wasting..

Get under there and look!
we can't see the condition of your exhaust. you may only need to screw your o2 back in and you'll be good to go. or you may have a completely rusted exhaust and there is nothing that will fix it other than replacing every single piece of it.

holy **** i thought i had rust problems!

i would definately think that you would wanna replace everything im pretty sure you cant weld rust and forget the muffler falling off, your flex pipe must be hanging on by a thread imagine what could happen if your exhaust broke off and hit the ground in the middle of the car while your on the freeway

your better off getting this done earlier then later the exhaust fumes ur leaking are probably causing alot of permanent damage
if u wanna get a good cheap exhaust kit try warpspeed and either pacesetter or cattman headers but if u get pacesetter get the armorcoated ones
as for a quick fix i would recommend earplugs

Ya it's nasty as hell - pretty rusty - I saw it up on the hoist. I don't know if it's where the O2 Sensor screws in but I suspect it is, there's a whole the size of a golf ball.

The remaining parts are still secured in, but like you said - they could snap completely off soon. I will admit it looks rusty near the gaskets, but other than the hole - it's not that bad. Nonetheless I guess new parts would not fasten on to these rusted fused old parts so each part needs to come down. The brand I'm looking at is Bosal for all the replacements.

By the way, am I going to have to replace the O2 sensor? Is there some type of a test one can do on it?

Wow thats pretty bad. My exhaust looks in fairly good condition though this car has been in Florida most of its life so nothing worse than salty air to eat through it. I'm sure you can blame salted roads for you northerners rusty exhausts.

Worst problem I've got is some minor spots on the muffler. If you guys need stock y-pipe keep your eyes open for when I face my fears and buy the warpspeed. I don't know what it would be worth to you guys but anything I can get back from my upgrade to the warpspeed it would be nice. If you need it quick though I'm sorry but my unemployed butt doesn't have the money for it and I'm currently more interested in the NWP intake spacers and after talking to Aaron by the time I have the money he might have the spacers for the VG so I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one.
