EGR Question
EGR Question
i was replacing my egr on my 91 gxe with one from my 94 gxe parts car yesturday when i noticed that the EGR from the parts car had a sensor on it near the inlet to the IM and the EGR to the 91 did not. i also found that the harness near the EGR in my 91 had a connector with a factory cover on it and the 94 had the same connector being used for the EGR.
i found out that the sensor is a temp sensor. im wondering why my 91 didnt have it but had the connector for it?
the other interesting thing is that the parts car had the same connector cover taped to the harness and i found no mention of this being related to only sertain years. does anyone know anthing about this sensor and if it unnesesary to have? it is connected to the Automatic transmission control modual.
i will try to take picures to post if i get the time.

my car is a 90 but someone (warranty replacement or otherwise... i have no idea when or why) put a 94 cali motor on it, so it's got a BPT and an egr temp sensor. whoever did the swap was intelligent enough to swap the whole engine harness rather than splicing on the 93-94 injector plugs onto the stock '90 harness..
edit:
based on mr 3g and mr greeny, it appears we have a consensus that at least all 1994 motors had them, whether VG or VE. now for someone with a 89-93 to chime in...

Both my 89 and 91 cali spec cars have the EGT sensor for the EGR and my 91 fed spec did not.
Im pretty sure the EGT sensor became standard in 93, but it may have been 92. This is for both VG and VE engines.

i haven't had time to put a multi meter to the connectors but is it safe to say that if i plug in the sensor that the Tranny control modual will know what to do with it? probably not since its never had it before.
My 91gxe has the connector with the cover on it
the 94gxe had the temp sensor pluged into that connector. but it had the same cover taped on the harness next to it, like it was added or something
the taped up thingy was a connector cover. both cars had it it on the harness to the left of the airbox and master cylinder

yeah i mean, i plugged mine in for no reason as well. just bc i felt like plugging it in. but it hasn't done anything, as far as i know. my 89 motor doesn't have it so i'll just put the cover on it from the other car, or swap the whole harness maybe since the injectors are gonna be different from my 94 motor (90 car, meaning the oner swapped harnesses with the engine years before i bought the car). it'll be cleaner to have a m/t harness than an a/t harness anyhow.
