Got The 1993 SE, Now To Fix Things

-im not having too much luck with search with ANY of these things, so im going to just list the couple of problems and see if any of you guys have been in the same scenarios.

-cruise control inoperable
-radio DOES NOT WORK anymore. it did when i installed it, then just SHUT OFF.
-Speedometer doesnt operate, but everything else does. PLUS: the whole cluster came off an 89-91 SE, so that may be a factor.

any help appreciated

1) more info needed. does the left-hand switch work and just not the wheel switches? or not the one down on the left either?
2) i don't know crap about audio. sorry. maybe bad wires burned the fuse or something.
3) cluster type doesn't matter. just pick up one you like from an ORGer or the boneyard.

1) Same question as Cap or u can pull one out from junkyard....
2) u need to see if ur radios ground is properly connected or no....i had the same problem so wat i did is that pulled my aftermarket player and saw that ground is touching then not touching lol....so i fixed the ground and pushed the harness a lil but and never had problem after that...plus u could check ur fuse...
3)it could be bad Speedometer sensor or bad wiring....

hmm if the VSS doesn't work then it WON'T let you into cruise....

question for OP: does the odometer still roll?

you need a new cluster, that will fix the speedo issue.
the max radio gets ground through the antenna and most aftermarket radios can work with that.
does your horn work?
is your airbag light on?
you may have a bad clock spring.

-radio issue solved. (Fuse)
-sure its not the speed sensor that needs to be cleaned or replaced??
-horn works
-air bag light does not come on.

would the 89-91 se w/o air bag light ever work???? i kno when i put one in my GXE, the overdrive light worked fine.

good
100% positive
good
good
I don't know if an 89-91 cluster would even have an airbag light as an option.
no matter what you need a cluster, start there and get one with a good airbag light. if the light comes on, then we know that you likely need the clock spring. if not then it's wire tracing time!

if odometer rolls, speed sensor works.
wrt the airbag light... you can crack the cluster open and swap items around as necessary. what i'd suggest is to get the JY cluster and put the tachometer and speedometer into it (leaving fuel/temp and odometer put) and also you can use that time to swap the extra light in for the airbag. If need be you can swap the films with light labels on them to accomodate adding that light.

yea you could. it's just as easy either way i suppose. fuel/temp comes out in order to get the odometer loose.

oh. yea you have to take the dash out. i thought you meant if there were special tools involved in actually working with the cluster once it's out. but most of the dash is phillips head too, actually.

-what i would do (AT THE JUNKYARD) is just rip stuff apart till you get what you need.

plus, its only like 12 screws total, you'll see them, and you'll kno when

I had a similar problem when I got my car. had to figure out where the cable went to to manually close the vent valve.
also, make sure the actuator is moving in the engine compartment. if it's staying open, could cause some extra warmth when you dont want it.

hey, prophet, when I had my problem, it went away after working that flap open and closed for a while. maybe if you just work it, it would get the movement it needs so you can use the lever. well, it worked for me, anyway.
