So after emptying my ash tray tonight i put the tray back in and now the light doesnt work. The only thing i could see in there is a little black plastic thing above where the tray would be is this where the light is?

 

It's mounted in the top of the metal frame that holds the sliders for the ashtray.
you could have knocked it out inadvertently if the ashtray was full of junk or the bulb could be out... I think there's two screws that hold the metal bracket onto the dash panel. remove those and the metal bracket should come out and you can check the light from there.

 

Yeah i think it must have gotten knocked out when i put the tray back in, will have to wait til tomorrow to take a good look thanks though
