why must people mess with safety equipment to the detriment of others?

messing with diffusers in lights = epic fail

they are there for a reason (to spread the light out more evenly and eliminate the hotspot where the filament is).

leave them be or get a bicycle....

90+% of cars w/ LED tails = fail
Caddy DTS = win because it diffuses the LEDs.

brighter =/= better. that's why euro-clear ebay maxima headlights suck donkey *********....

Did you have to BREAK THE DEFLECTOR to get it out of the TURN SIGNAL hole?

free spelling fixes. (you should really invest in a copy of Firefox, its only a 7 meg download, and has built in spell check.) also, punctuation.

in case you missed what "=/=" means, IT MEANS IS NOT EQUAL TO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

and people typically know your car is reversing by the fact that it is going backwards. the only time I have ever been confused was when I saw the new beetle for the first time, almost 10 years ago.

well the thing is that it has a fresnel lens in it, which spreads the light out at a wider angle, making it easier for people to see your reverse lights from the side in a parking lot. you know that the light housings on our cars are basically flat across the back, unlike the 7th gen (whose taillights i abslolutely LOVE), where the reverse lights are further out frmo the signals, and therefore you have true 180 degree visibility of both the signals and the reverse lights. this is a side shot of the 09 max. notice the position of the reverse/signal bulbs, and how we cna't do this on a 3rd gen b/c the rear is flat.

i prefer to know that people are gonna back up before they are moving backwards. because if you won't find out until they are moving, then it can be too late. I had to slam on my brakes in the parking lot at work b/c one of my coworkers was backing out in her jeep cherokee and from my angle i couldn't see the reverse lights at all, so I had to find out she was backing out by seeing her car move. I'd have liked to know about 10ft earlier though. see what i mean?

hell if you just need to see what a car does by watching it, then we can all take out our brakelights because you don't need to see brakelights, you ought to notice it slowing down, and you don't need turnsignals, because you ought to notice them cutting into your lane or slowing down for a turn.

wrong. it's all about head's-up and warning.

ftr, this is the first time i've ever disagreed with Benstoked.

wow, didn't think people still do this? i did this back in '01-'02. haven't gotten in trouble for it either. i just installed a amber bulb for my turn signals and left the reverse bulbs alone. its a nice mod too. now im thinking of doing the same to the rest of the taillights once i prep the car for paint.

on 89-91 at least, the amber lens isn't very noticeable. I owned the car for half a year thinking that i had a big-long reverse light and red turn signals. Until i saw my reverse lights reflecting off a window, and saw they didn't go all the way across.... hit my blinker and was like "whattttt?!". I'd never paid much attention to it beforehand.. never took a close look at the car to notice that about it.

http://i164.photobucket.com/albums/u...g?t=1220284456

is it more noticeable on 92-94 taillights than in that pic?

no, really what I was trying to convey with the reverse's is
a) if you are backing up, (and if you can't see, carefully) people would know that you are moving,
and
b) unless it is dark, brighter won't help.

if people cannot see you backing up, aside from a signal (a flag popping out of the bumper, etc.) they won't know you are going anywhere.
there are a few rules people should follow in parking lots, or wherever.
if you are driving, 15 mph is about as fast as you want to go around cars. if you are backing up, do it carefully, and slowly. jumping out of a spot is bound to cause an accident. if you can't see, you gotta creep out a few inches at a time, so if somebody is there, they can react properly (honking, stopping, etc.) until you can see you are clear, you aren't.

yea... but having the lights visible from the side is always nice. I didn't even know michelle's car was on, or that anyone was in it. no lights are side-visible, so i couldn't see her on the brakes either. So for me, it was like a car with nobody on it suddenly backing into my path. Thankfully she was on my left so she had a whole lane to back into before she'd come across my path but even so i always look at cars' reverse lights in the parking lot to see if they are on. Which is why I hate cars that park backwards and then pull out frontways... unless it's at night then their headilghts are on. But otherwise they can pull out at any moment and you'll never know the car was even on.

Visible backup lights are redundant.
At my job. I thought one of my coworkers was backing up. The reverse lights was lit, but the car (Prius) wasn't moving. Then after 30 secs, I look towards the driver's side and noticed that it was the headrest, not his head. The car was empty, but the Sun hit the reverse light in the right spot to seem like it was on, along with his brakelights.

I've also driven behind people with NO brakelights at all and switch lanes because of it.

Never - ever rely on lights at all. Use your eyes' range finder to determine if a car's moving and in which direction.

If people did this, my mom's car wouldn't got rear ended while stopped at a green light because an officer signaled her to wait while the Lexus was paying attention to the green light instead of the distance of their car and her car.

i don't rely solely on lights but it's always nice to have them. yes there are dumb people that misuse them, cars with burned-out bulbs, etc, but in most cases, proper usage of vehicle lights will shorten your reaction time.

so you were both backing ,she saw you backing up and stopped, you got all pissy with her, because she was leaving at the same time as you....

my tint is illegal, so dark I can't see anything, but I can see a normal reverse light behind me. a non-modified light.

then again, I have a pretty good idea on how to drive, and try to pay attention to things when I cannot see. that is more important when driving a car, defensive driving. pay attention to your surroundings.
