there is a hp gain because its a free flowing muffler and it will give you more power over your stock but it wont give you much more. as for the sound, it will give you a deeper growl but on the vg maxes i noticed after around 3 k rpm, the muffler sound dies out and the intake sound takes over. i dont know if you have a vg or ve so the sound could vary. as for the looks, to be honest...its very ugly. first off they come in red and they usually dont come with a tip. i seen them with huge a$$ tips and it doesnt look right if you tip is larger then your base. but then again, its your car...its your money, you get what you like and all this bs i just said is my opinion.

I checked with Nissan and they wanted a lot of money for a replacement pre-silencer. Instead I bought a Cherry Bomb at the local auto parts store for $11.95 and welded it in place of the Nissan pre-silencer. It's a little larger diameter and a little longer but it fits just fine. I noticed no increase in hp or noise.

pre silencer? what is that? do you mean the catalyic convertor? if you replaced that with a cherry bomb, all you did is put a hi flow cat in your car but the reason why you didnt notice any noise or hp increase is that you still have a stock muffler so it still muffles the sound and restricts the air flow.

I think He means the resonator. And that is far from a hi-flow cat.

how is puttin on a cherry bomb to replace your stock cat not a hi flow cat? a cherry bomb is almost the same thing as a straight pipe which means it has no honey comb material and a hi flow cat doesnt have any honey comb material either. well anyways...if you are going to use a cherry bomb or glass pack just be sure not to leave it on there too long, its hella ugly!

Well, a catalytic converter contains a catalyst that reacts with the exhaust gases to convert them from toxic to less-toxic. (Don't remember which pollutants - oxides of nitrogen, I think NOx, or maybe changes carbon monoxide, CO, into carbon dioxide, CO2 & water, H2O).
The catalyst is supported in some kind of framework. In old-style converters the catalyst were pellets. In new-style converters the framework is honeycomb shaped.
A high-flow cat is just configured some way to be less restrictive. But it is likely, therefore, to be less effective at emmissions control.
A cherry bomb muffler or a straight pipe, obviously, does NO pollution reduction at all.
Just so's ya know, Cherry Bombs date back into the sixties and are just a brand name of a fiberglass-packed straight-thru design. They have a louvered core that is wrapped in fiberglass. Hence the generic term glass-packs.
Good Luck,
Kirk
