Clutch Trouble

Hey Guys,
I'm stuck with another problem here. A few days back I was driving to the store went to downshift into second and the clutch would not let go of the engine. I figured since I had just replaced my slave cylinder a few days prior that that could be the trouble. I revved mached it back home and saw that the slave cylinder was still moving the fork all the way over like it was supposed to but the clutch won't let go. If I started it in gear it would make kind of a strange grinding sound momentarily, the car would jump a bit and then it would let go. It worked okay for a couple more shifts and then was stuck again. I dropped the transmission today and nothing looked out of the ordinary, but I figured it was the release bearing and I replaced it, put the tranny back on tonight and it still will not release although I can see the fork is moving? You can almost feel a tightness in the pedal when the car is running and a slight vibration in the pedal as well when it's down. Could it be that the disk is stuck to the flywheel? I haven't been working the car hard at all lately...The clutch doesn't slip at all even in it's current state. Any advice helps, thanks!

did you pull the clutch and PP off yet? if not check them for damage. also, aside from the vibration and stuff, does the pedal feel any stiffer or notchier or anything?

If I pulled the trans off, I'd yank the clutch disk and pressure plate just to make sure.

also check over the release fork for cracks or damage. I've seen them bend and flex inside the bellhousing before. not on a Maxima, but I've seen it.

You'll need to pull the trans...It's sounds like the throwout bearing failed, the throw detach itself from the fork spring (broke retainer spring), or the fork is forked...Good luck, let us know what you find!

he said he already replaced the TO bearing and it's doing the same thing.

Doesn't mean the second one isn't bad, but I would tend to think he wouldn't get a bad one right out of the box.

Sorry i didn't see that....so how about some broken diaphram spring fingers (pressure plate fingers)? That's more than likely the case...I wondering how much wear was on the spring fingers (where they are contacted by the throwout bearing) during the initial TOB change?

Well I found the trouble yesterday. Turns out one of the clutch disk springs popped out and was floating around in between the disk and the plate. So I can imagine that when the pressure plate was trying to compress, the spring was getting in the way so it couldn't disengauge. It was too bad I didn't see that the first time I pulled the tranny but it was dark and I was pretty set on it being the throw out bearing.

holycrap... that's a weird one

i'd say get a new clutch disc then cuz if one spring popped out the other 3 or 5 can't be too far behind.

Yeah, I just put in a entirely new setup w/ the pressure plate and disk. She's doing much better now. Definatly weird though. The reason I thought it was the TOB is because last time it went out I had the same symptoms but this car likes to play tricks on me these days.
