I suggest removing your transmission, then taking it and the transgo unit to a qualified tranny shop for installation(removing the trans will save quite a bit on labor $$). Auto transmission work is not for your average shadetree mechanic, hell most of the hardcore mechs on the org would cringe at the thought of cracking open an auto trans.

from what i can remember...the transgo kit has some seals for the pump too.
those will require you to pull the TC and pull the case in 1/2.

IMO best to leave it alone and use the transgo kit when you're doing a rebuild or have A LOT of free time.

Im not sure about the RE4F04V but I dont think you need to pull the trans. AAMCO (beep beep) changed the valve body on my RE4F02A in less than an hour. I pulled the VB myself on my 02 and had a Transgo kit put in then I put the VB back in. It wasnt bad at all. But I agree with Greeny on the professional part for the kit install.

Im at work and dont have the FSM handy but if you have one you should be able to see whats involved.

blah, if you are handy, organized and patient you can easily work with an A/T.
I do recommend having the FSM handy though.

i talked to a tech at transgo and he said that you dont have to put in every thing in the kit just what you need and that you didnt need to pull the trans unless you wanted to because it will go in just the same without performance losses. given that there are parts that can be instaled while the trans is out if you have it out. the one bad thing is no fsm though but my auto mechanics class im sure has one somewhere i might be able to copy

how bad was it? i mean like how complicated is it to remove and install? ive rebuilt a big block 460 ford 2 honda a20a3 and a 426 hemi engines but i dread the automatic trans so any insight is nice

Not too bad on my 5.5 gen. I had this write up though http://www.vqpower.com/v2/articles.php?article_id=60

Looking at the FSM for your RE4F04V it looks like 13 bolts hold the VB in after you remove the pan. Looks like there are springs above it that will drop with it. Google for the FSM and give it a go. Dont do it without knowing what bolts to remove. Some are holding the valve body together while others hold the VB to the trans. Good luck.

I would highly recommend you get the following: New o-rings for the VB to Trans, o-rings for the selenoids, and gaskets for the valve-body. Also, don't forget to remove the electrical connector and circlip for the selenoid packs from the top of the trans first, all covered in the fsm though.

I just quickly compared the 02 FSM to the 94 FSM and it looks like the same drawing for valve body removal (same number of bolts and all the same lengths). It even has the same picture ID in both FSM's. You should be able to follow that write up I gave you to drop your VB. Now Im wondering if a RE4F04B will bolt up to the VE.

edit: Ok, Nissan must use generic pics. The pics for the bell housings are even the same.

the beeitoch about the VB is that it's like a jig saw puzzle...you need to know where every ball and spring goes. if one is not right then you're redoing the job again.

I don't know why everyone seems to despise working on automatics, they're the one thing I miss doing all the time from when I was in school. As long as you have a good memory or a detailed diagram of all the checkballs, o-rings and thrust washers, they are extremely easy.

Couple of bolts, couple of snap rings, and everything slides right apart.

Hell, after rebuilding Merlyn's RS6F51H, I'd much rather do an automatic any day over a manual.

Here's a really good thread on a rebuild...not sure how different the trannies are but at least an idea what you need to do.
