clear timing belt cover

didn't find anything on a .org search or on ebay... found some for the RB but nothing for VG. Anyone ever heard of one for the VG30E?

Maybe you could take the existing cover off, cut out all unnecessary material around the cover so you could view the majority of the belt at a glance?

You'd really only need a nice-sized window to check the belt. If you wanted to see if it was cracking you'd need to remove the cover, regardless of whether it was clear or not. I think the belt is safer with the cover on... Why are you interested in a clear cover?

just one of those not-for-any-particular-reason novelties, i suppose. Goon ran w/o a top cover, matt's probe ran w/o a top cover, most guys run with a cover, etc. It's not so important to me that I'd go make one... if one already existed, cool, if not, oh well.

i like to run it w/ a cover. keeps oil and crap off the belt.
good idea to epoxy two small plexi glass windows somewhere on the cover.

1 for light to shine in...the 2nd to actually see it.

That's dangerous! It's an accident waiting to happen with some hanging hair , necklace, shop rag or tie....

If you run no (or cut up) cam cover, just make sure not to work on your engine while its running. If you must, just pop the cover back on while you work. One or two bolts will keep it in place just fine.

Regardless of a cam cover or not, you should never work on a car with loose hair, necklace, or a tie when the engine is running.

The guy asked the question, since it's quite obvious there is no clear t/b covers out there to be had, i simply gave him another option so he can view his t/b. It would be just as hazardous to hang over any running engine, with long hair/necklaces/a necktie even with the t/b cover in place, accessory belts can catch long hair, necklaces, or a tie.

Who the hell would work on a car with a necktie on anyway?

Ironically, I had a flat on the way to a job interview once....
fortunately it was nice and cold outside and I'd just cleaned my wheels, so I didn't get sweaty or dirty. was able to wash up at a gas station and still get there on time. hew!:

No.

but I'm glad now... It was with Williams Communications.. They pulled an Enron about 1 yr later and went under, leaving many of their employees fooked and unpaid for several months worth of salary.
So I dodged that one!

better than getting your hair or a tie caught.
i did get a pulley to scrape on a timing light wire once. got some melted insulation but everything else was ok.

anyhow another org member called me last night and said that he's got a friend that works with plexiglass, and might be able to (with their combined efforts) put some sizeable plexiglass windows into a stock metal cover.

There are a number of z31 guys who run without timing belt covers but it always made me nervous. They z31 guys with the adjustable cam gears particularly prefer to run without the covers so they can make the adjustments easier. I don't think I could do it myself!

meh, the idea would be cool.
I have seen a crank case cover (or some such cover) made for a dirt bike (on tv) out of a chunk of plexiglass. it was cool, but something went wrong, and leaked oil.
since its a dry location, this wouldn't be a problem. but for the price, I don't think it be worth it for a 18(>=/<=) year old dd.
