Attn: Maxima Gods ..radiator question

Ok I was taking apart my se today (the one that was hit in the front).
Well I got everything out and on the "new"(new to me) radiator (i got it from someone with a blown engine on the org) there are two pipes comming out on the bottom mabey an 1" long but on my old radiator there aren't any just there is just one big one for the radiator hose.
ok now my question: should I just get a pipe and connect them or should I plug them (and how too.)

a pic of my new hood (thanks Maxima97gle)

Those are for an automatic transmission. There is an integrated tranny cooler in the radiator. You don't need to hook those up to anything. You can ignore them...

Yep what Brian said. I guess you could plug them w/ plastic plugs or something but it's not really needed.

Brian, glad your helping with the tech questions. I can't keep up!

thats what i figured

I was almost sure it was for an auto but i wasnt sure how to plug um or if I should connect um. also is there a way I can let out the frion (spelling) so I can replace my ac condensor ( in front of the radiator right?) its bent pretty bad but i dont know if it was leaking. I thought the radiator was empty from leaking but its been 4 hrs and i still smell like anti freeze also is there a way to get the radiator arm off and is it just the piece that goes across the top,or is the whole thing the piece across the top and the piece that goes down by the frame too?

thanks for the help.

Technically you cannot LEGALLY let out the freon. However if you MUST do it you can find the cap on the system and let the freon out. I'm not sure off the top of my head where it is, but it will be schreader (sp?) valve (like on your tires). It will probably have a black or blue cap over it. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL letting the stuff out because it can give you frost bite. That being said I really wouldn't let the freon out. I'm pretty sure that your car would have R12 which is insanely expensive since the tree huggers got it phased out... You are probably better off just trying to make the bent condensor fit, or take it to a shop that deals in A/C. I would avoid converting to R134a. A few of my friends have done it in their RX-7's and they noticed a big decrease in cooling capacity.

Not sure what you mean by the radiator arm. I've never had the radiator out on the Maxima so I can't say for sure. Also look at the bright side: you smell like antifreeze instead of gear oil

Jeff92se: Glad to help

your radiator core support (probably the thing that's bent if you're replacing your hood and radiator) just goes along the top and welds on to each side, just behind the headlight. the ends of it that attach to the fender areas can probably just be straightened, then buy a new core support and have a shop weld it in place for you. it's not too hard, but you need a welder.

well thats

What I figured but I wanted to know if I could swap out the ac condenser because I could get one cheap from the guy that I got all the other parts from. That is the AC condenser in front of the radiator right? And I know I’m going to have to get it done by a pro. But I’m trying to get some of it done so I can at least drive it. It’s drivable now but not for long periods since the radiator was leaking and the hood was bent up a bit too high to drive. I was hoping to get the radiator fixed so that I could drive it to get some estimates.
But I got all the parts for a total of like $300 and change. And all I really need is the AC condenser and the fan support.
I’m trying to keep this cost low because when I finally sell my gxe hopefully around 4K I can spend less then $1000 on body shop repairs
Then I need $1000 so I can buy a new set of rims which I could put on my account with ROH but I don’t really want a 1000 dollar debt to them

and whatever is left will go towards my Insurance. because Ive got almost everything else I need really.

besides I only paid $300 for the car anyway. so
$300 car
$300 parts
Mabey $1000 for repairs

Yes you can, but in order to remove it you will have to remove the freon from the system. If you want to SEE if any freon is in the system you can find that cap that I was talking about yesterday and push the valve open with the end of a screw driver. (for a quick second) If stuff sprays out you have freon in the system... if not... it's empty. Like I said earlier, if there is freon in the system I would just take it to a pro... that way he can capture your old freon and then put it back in. (Should save you a good bit of money, over having to buy R12 agian)

Good luck,

Re: Re: thats what i thought

I just used a tire pressure gauge to check it and it made a small hiss but not that much, I also wasnt pushing that hard but i think if there was a leak there would be nothing left right?
ill just leave it the way its is and let the body shop deal with it. now i just have to plug up those two pipes. Im gonna try some epoxy (the kindd that comes in a tube) then i can put the fans and radiator back in.

thanks for all your help guys.
