Removal of stock BOSE unit?

I just joined this forum. Great site! I want to replace the stock BOSE radio in my mother's 92 Maxima. The whole system fizzled out awhile back. I know that each speaker has its own amplifier and that the stock unit makes no speaker power. Before I start tearing the dash apart, can anyone give me some advice? How do you remove the stock unit? Thanks all.

also, is a CD kit required? Or will most aftermarket units just slide right in place of the original?
