89 Problems-help wanted.

Looking for opinions...

I am driving an 89 max that is starting to show its years. Only 100K miles but 12 years takes it toll. My first window regulator has cracked some plastic parts where the cable ends sit and I have the door panel off and regulator out. $60 seems to be a fine price at curtousyparts .

Sunroof shade has lost one prong of the 8 that keeps it on the track and it is a pain to operate. One amp in a front bose door speaker is starting to whine terribly..Not sure how much $$ it is to replace one of these old things. ... Engine is fine but is sounding like I have a smal exhust pin hole, still rather muffled, that I can't find.

On cold mornings (only a few so far this fall but in VT, i will get many), it smells horrily of GAS inside and out of the car. Another nissan owner said theirs does the same thing (newer quest) ..something with the injection? Anyone have thoughts on this? Problem? Par? Don't want to blow up on the way to work. Bad start to a day.

Tx for any advice anyone has.

Biggest question I could use advice on is the cold morning start gas smell..

Does anyone have a cause?

Look for Craig B's website. He has informative info regarding the changing of window regulators.

This is a common problem that I had on my VE powered maxima also. It's your rubber fuel injection hose. By now the hose is brittle/hard and can't keep a good tight connection to the metal gas line/connections. On a VG(your) maxima, you have to open your hood BEFORE YOU START THE CAR WHEN IT'S COLD. Start the car then follow the fuel lines from the fuel filter on. You should be able to trace where the gas is leaking from. You can try to tighten the hose fittings but by now you should replace them w/ new hose. Please only use fuel line hose DESIGNED FOR FUEL INJECTION. It's not hard to find though. Please read all the faqs and stickies for more possible information. For the VG maximas, you have short runs of rubber hose right before the injectors themselves. If these are leaking, you have to remove the intake manifold to get at them(I think)

I've posted on this before, you can fix the regulator if its just the plastic piece thats broken. Just use a machine screw to clamp the metal stopper piece on the cable down.

I have heard of many people fixing their regulators, but the new
regulators have been re designed, they now have two additonal metal pieces, one to prevent the exact error you have described. I too have the gas smell, let me know how that fix goes.

Re; Regulators

The regulator is broken at the top plastic piece , bottom plastic piece, and the middle one.. Plus, one of the grey plastic piece near the spool is cracked...

It is out. New one on order, and will be better than new I presume..

re: 89 Max problems

I agree with Jeff. Check out your fuel filter. If you are using a Fram, etc. Junk it quick! My friend & ex-Nissan mechanic says there were many fuel line problems. Only use Nissan replacement lines. There is also a fluid to use when putting on the new hose, Doixfoil? It causes a chemical reaction with the Nissan fuel line to have a leak-proof seal. That is the way it's supposed to be done by the dealer. You parts department guy should know or Courtesy.
