92 VE Stalling out while driving??

I have a 92 maxima DOHC. But anyway while im driving the gas will cut out. Like im pushing on the gas pedal and theres nothing happening for about 5-10 seconds then it will start moving again. Not very safe to drive around. Sometimes the car even stalls out while im cruising around. I am very confused at what is going on and need some help. New parts replaced are fuel filter, injector, fuel pump, oil and filter, and spark plugs. Any suggestions???

sort of like that?

also when you are still moving but lose throttle response, does your tachometer still show some RPM (like in the video) or does it drop to zero?

oh and you're not stealing the thread at all this is what this whole thread is for

It drops to zero sometimes it stalls out and sometimes it just sits at zero while im giving it gas but doesnt move for a couple seconds then just goes. has exhaust leak and valve tap also but no worried about those problems this second

well if it drops to zero even when you're moving... then it seems that the cam sensor is bad, or not connected properly. That is... if I am understanding you right. the car doesn't actually come to a stop before you manage to get it going again, does it?

manual ok... if your car is in gear, and you are moving, and your foot is OFF the clutch..... then your engine IS spinning, no matter what the tachometer says. So if you're in gear, moving, foot off clutch, and it drops to zero, then there MUST be something betting in the way of the RPM signal from eraching the ECU.

What would you suggest to look for its always in gear when it happens and never on the clutch. Doesnt happen all the time i can drive around for an hour and it wont happen but when i drove it today it was the worst yet.

he said it does it when he's driving

driving implies motion

i'm trying to get him to be more specific... like "yes i'll be going 45mph and it'll lose power and start slowing down, but cuts back on by the time i get to like 30mph" or "yea power drops out while i'm driving, but it stays off for so long that the car comes to a stop before i can get it to go again" or "no it only happens when i'm sitting still"

So what speed it's stalling out and then returning will help with diagnoses?

only happens when im moving never at a stop. sorry im new to this. Gas all of the sudden cuts off for a couple seconds it will slow down but will kick back on sometimes it does come to a complete stop though. Sometimes it does stall when this happens but not all the time. Happens in all gears at any speeds but never while at a stop.

not explicitly, no. the numbers themselves (mph) don't matter so much as the description i quoted below

and every time it starts slowing down, the tachometer drops to zero, correct? What does the speedometer do? Does it continue reading normally the whole time?

ok. that's what i figured. in that case it's got to be that the RPM signal is not making it to the ECU. The ECU sees zero RPM and says "o ok. engine isn't spinning so i don't need to inject any fuel" and that's why your car stops accelerating. The cam position sensor is on the driver-side of the front valve cover and has a plug coming out the top of it. check to see if there are any broken wires, or if the harness is loose, or appears burned... then pull it off and see if the fingers and contacts appear to have green corrosion on them

First, start with the simple low/ to no cost fixes that might be your problem..

1. Check all your sensor connectors for corrosion(green looking crap) and check then for looseness(must fit tight)

Pic of sensor locations:

Check/ clean/ check for looseness on all the sensor connectors, then report back your findings

well perform that test on EC-253 first... that will tell you what you actually have to fix. it MIGHT be a wire broken somewhere where you cannot see it, or it could be the sensor, or something else. that test procedure will ensure you find the right cause of the problem.

motor stall

my 90 maxima did the same thing, it was the coil. when ran for a few minutes the coil would be so hot you could not touch it.

whatever it is, is essentially killing the engine.
unless it "starts" back up while you have pushed the clutch in, on it's own.

edit: crap! what is it today, "everyone beat everyone else to the post day?!?!!?"

sorry for joining u guys late LOL....92maxima92 i read the whole thread but i might have missed this.....did u try to retrieve any trouble codes from ECU?

http://pages.cthome.net/bbachinsky/nissan_ecm_codes.htm

it could be ur coils as TACHO gets its signal from coils and ECU at the same time....there COULD be a possibility of the ECU being BAD....but before i would say check ur coils for cracks as Greeny said....i ma try to get pics of crack coils as i had them and cant find them now

edit: oh here...r they worse than these?

ya i did realize that they were huge so i resized them and i think u deleted them again accidentally lol so i added them again lol
